My opinion: - Male kodiaks, exceptionally large grizzly bears, and polar bear beats smilodon populator, Xenosmilus hodsonae, American lion, cave lion, Ngadong tiger, Siberian tiger, Bengal tiger, African lion, ligers, Barbary lions, and all other big cats (extinct or extant - male or female).
- A mature male grizzly bear can beat all extant big cats but smilodon populators at weight parity can put up a good fight.
- Barren ground grizzlies will be immune to tiger and lion predation as unlike the defensively aggressive sloth bear will attack anything in sight.
- Smilodon populators, cave lions, and American lions can kill female polar and Kodiak bears but even these female bears can kill tigers and lions.
- Male Siberian tigers can kill adult Asiatic black bears (male and female) and adult brown bears up to the largest female grizzlies and Ussuri brown bears as well as subadult.
- Tigers and lions can kill most black bears except for the exceptionally large male American black bears.
- The smaller Asian bear subspecies like the Asiatic black bears, sloth bears, giant pandas, spectacled bears, and sun bears will lose to African lions, Bengal tigers, and Siberian tigers in a fight to death. The defensively aggressive sloth bear and big male Asiatic black bears can fend off tigers which give them respect in the wild despite being able to kill these bears.

( IMHO )... with any big cat. In fact ( again just opinion ) I believe that one of the "giant" ancient lions or tigers could defeat a saber-toothed cat in a face-off. Against a grizzly, the Smilodon would put-up no better fight than a lion... ( IMHO ).

brobear , I also support a male grizzly bear over a smilodon at weight parity. The male grizzly will be stronger due to being a platigrade as oppose to the smilodon populator being a ditigrade despite having more robust forearms than other cats. The Xenosmilus hodsonae being a platigrade as well as a better grapplers than the smilodon populator might give a male grizzly bear more difficulty at weight parity. Even so I still support a male grizzly in a fight as the bear’s shorter back and shoulder hump gives it more strength as well as have longer claes to dig deeper.

There are several debates that are over concerning bears. This does not mean that the conversation must end nor does it mean to stop collecting the evidence - our proof. Here is a list of debates over: 1- Tiger vs Grizzly ... the bear wins. 2- Lion vs Grizzly ... the bear wins. 3- Who is stronger? Lion, Tiger, or Grizzly? ... bear wins. 4- At head-and-body length parity, who has the greater girth? Lion, Tiger, or Grizzly? ... bear wins. 5- Who is smarter? Lion, Tiger, or Grizzly? ... bear wins. 6- Who has the best fighting skills? Lion, Tiger, or Grizzly? ... bear wins. 7- Who has claimed the greatest range of the earth's surface? Lion, Tiger, or Grizzly? ... bear wins. King Kodiak says: So in reality, its only the fanboys that are debating this on the internet. The Russian biologists have already debated in the 60s and came to the conclusion that male bears win. *Not only the Russian biologists of the '60's, but our own elite posters as well; most of them being big cat enthusiasts. So yes, only the die-hard big cat fan-boys favor their favorite big cat in a one-on-one face-off against a healthy mature boar grizzly.

Correct. As stated many times, the leader of the tiger team, the smartest and most knowledgeable, Peter, favours adult male brown bears over adult male tigers. The leader of the lion team, Starfox, thinks the same. Does not matter what the "lower-rank" members of their teams think.
DEBATE OVER.

I am Grizzly
But lately I have some great feats about tigers which made them my no 1 favourite
Dont worry Bears 2nd Lions 3rd
I too will admit
A boar grizzly is too powerful for 95.99 % of lions and tigers ( Including powerful males like B2, Charger, Notch or Sekekama )

I love and greatly admire the big cats. I try to give credit where credit is due. But you are right, not even the most impressive lion or tiger is likely to best a mature male grizzly in a one-on-one face-off confrontation.

brobear who is your favourite individual tiger i.imgur.com/3J5dt70.jpg Charger – Bandhavgarh National Park Charger was a dominant male tiger of Bandhavgarh National Park in Charkadhara Tala range. Sita and Charger were true lover and very compassionate for each other, they had two male cubs Bara Bachha and Langru. But this only because of my old friend "Charger1" who was a true tiger enthusiast. The tiger is his favorite animal; but he was always honest in his posts. He finally just quit these sites because the fan-boy hypocrisy and deceit and over-all rude behavior drove him away.

The bear vs tiger debate is over for several reasons:
-According to most authorities in the RFE, Siberian tigers completely avoid large male brown bears.
-The actual percentage of brown bears in tigers diet is less than 1.5 % each year. Each Tiger (only adults) procures on average, only 3 bears per year.
-Brown bears have also killed and eaten tigers in the wild, including adult males.
-There has never been a confirmed record of a tiger killing an adult male brown bear.
-Brown bears displace tigers very often with the tigers departing to avoid confrontation.
-In captivity, bears have defeated tigers basically every time in head on fights.
-The most respected and knowledgeable tiger fans, like Peter and Paul Cooper, favour male brown bears over male tigers in a face to face fight.
-In all major animal forums, in the brown bear vs tiger threads, the polls all favour the brown bear.
-most animal trainers and hunters have favored bears over tigers in a fight.

Looking at the voting poles in both carnivora.net/interspecific-conflict-f8/ and theworldofanimals.proboards.com/board/2/animal-scenarios we can see clearly that our work is not in vain. Just one decade ago, those poles would have looked much different. Even a great many lion and tiger enthusiasts are voting in favor of the BEAR. I would go so far as to say that now, the only people arguing that a lion or a tiger can defeat a mature male grizzly one-on-one in a face-off confrontation is either a die-hard fan-boy in denial of the truth or else a very young poster or one with very little real knowledge of animals.

Exactly brobear, all the work we have done is not in vain. All the research we have done, accounts, reports, expert opinions, scientific studies about the morphology of the animals, all have paid off and we can clearly see it in the polls in the different forums.

Reply #8 talks about fights in captivity - some happen by accident and some arranged. I have no doubts that some attributed to accidents were also arranged. Some time back we removed our animal fight topics here for a number of reasons: 1- Where there are people and animals fighting, there is gambling. There are a thousand-and-one ways for a person to cheat. 2- All of the facts are never known such as age, sex, health condition, or mental condition of each animal. 3- All of those tales are found in old newspapers which depended heavily on sensationalism to sell their papers. TheOldGreenOne's post tells of lions killing polar bears. A polar bear never reaches his potential in captivity. This was especially true in years from mid-20th century and back. Most of their polar bears were the size of small black bears. Therefore, those "fights" are completely meaningless. *Note: we removed all "animal fights in captivity" topics regardless of the fact that in those old newspaper tales the bear was by far the victor most often. Removed for the reasons posted here.
