My list is updated - for a 1000+ pound brown bear...( face-off - no ambush ) elephant ( any species ) - elephant 100% hippopotamus - hippo 100% rhinoceros - all except for Sumatran - rhino 100% Sumatran rhinoceros - bear 75% - rhino 25% giraffe - giraffe 90% - bear 10% All large wild bovine bulls ( 1500+ pounds ) - 50% each... only if bear has experience in killing large ungulates. Domestic bull - ( depending on breed ) few breeds make 40% - bear no less than 60% Stallion horse ( one with fighting experience ) - 50% each... again; only if bear has experience in killing large ungulates. 1000+ pound crocodile ( on land ) - 50% ( questionable ) Pygmy hippo - bear 90% - hippo 10% Bull walrus - ? Bull elephant seal - seal 100% Bull moose - moose 60% - bear 40% Ask a big cat fanboy ( not intelligent enthusiast ) "who can defeat a lion or a tiger?" .... Their answer: NOTHING.

I pretty-much agree. Of course, the cougar would not have stuck around to fight. Neither would the lone wolf. Also, the lone wolf killing the bear was a bit of a stretch. One more thing, Catching the pronghorn would be rather miraculous. But all-in-all mostly accurate.

Even the one were bear took down bison? There was a double-take on that one. Bear wins one and bison wins one. I have read numerous books on the "historical grizzly". We have little other than the words of early pioneers, early settlers, and the Indians to go on. Among them, were tales which leaned both ways. For this reason, I have always stated 50-50 for brown bear vs bison ( or other large wild bovine ). Note that the grizzlies of the American prairie were larger than the Rocky Mountain grizzly. Note: they also gave a 50-50 for the moose; which I also pretty-much agree with.

An animated look at different animals up against a Grizzly. Some of them probably not too far off from the real thing. The Black Bear killing the Grizzly was bogus. Anyway I thought it was entertaining.

This will sound silly but do you guys thinks its plausible for a lion or a tiger to kill and eat a decent sized walrus? Like imagine a large Siberian tiger that came across a walrus. Do you think it could take it out?

Short answer no. An adult walrus is just too much to handle for a single large cat. we know how difficult it is for a polar bear to handle a large adult walrus so a large cat, lion or tiger would be impossible in my opinion.

A walrus also is way more durable than a Cape buffalo and gaur. It is extremely hard to get at its vital organs.

A walrus also is way more durable than a Cape buffalo and gaur. It is extremely hard to get at its vital organs. A walrus likely wins via escape as this fight would likely take place near the water where the walrus could just swim away. A persistent tiger/lion could use hit and run tactics potentially, but this could take potentially hours, which it wouldn't have in a realistic battle. Honestly multiple big cats wouldn't be able to do this. Too much blubber that acts as armor and their skin is too tough.

We think alike on this subject. In addition, a walrus’ neck is almost as thick as its body. The reason Death is rare in fights between these animals despite having tusks that can severely injure a polar bear says something.

A fresh new look and update ( strictly my personal opinions )... 1,000 pound ( half-ton ) grizzly boar. All face-to-face combat. ( 1 ) Elephant vs brown bear - elephant 10 / bear 0. ( 2 ) Hippopotamus vs brown bear - hippo 10 / bear 0. ( 3 ) Rhinoceros ( w. exception of Sumatran ) - rhino 10 / bear 0. ( 4 ) Elephant seal vs brown bear - seal 10 / bear 0. ( 5 ) Walrus vs brown bear - walrus 9 / bear 1. ( 6 ) Giraffe vs brown bear - giraffe 9 / bear 1. ( 7 ) 1,000+ pound crocodile on land - crocodile 5 / bear 5 ( questionable ). ( 8 ) Moose vs brown bear - moose 5 / bear 5. ( 9 ) Stallion horse ( one with fighting experience ) - horse 5 / bear 5. ( 10 ) Spanish fighting bull vs brown bear - bull 3 / bear 7. ( 11 ) Bison vs brown bear - bison 5 / bear 5. ( 12 ) African buffalo vs brown bear - buffalo 5 / bear 5. ( 13 ) Asian water buffalo vs brown bear - buffalo 5 / bear 5. ( 14 ) Gaur vs brown bear - gaur 6 / bear 4. ( 15 ) Yak vs brown bear - yak 6 / bear 4. ( 16 ) Pygmy hippopotamus vs brown bear - hippo 1 / bear 9. ( 17 ) Sumatran rhinoceros vs brown bear - rhino 3 / bear 7. ( 18 ) Lion vs brown bear - lion 1 / bear 9. ( 19 ) Tiger vs brown bear - tiger 1 / bear 9. ( 20 ) Polar bear vs brown bear - polar 7 / brown 3.

I disagree that a lion or a tiger could defeat a 1000 grizzly boar head on, even with 1 win. Minor small disagreement. Fight wouldn't even happen.

My actual estimation is 19 out of 20 for the bear; but this topic is "Best out of Ten". That one out of ten would be the freakish tooth or claw slicing open an artery or some other quirk. In other words, like the leopard killing the tiger. A fluke. Sh*t happens. Quote: Fight wouldn't even happen. *True; the big cat would have to feel cornered.

The Truth ( full grown males ): Most lion populations average below 400 pounds. Some tiger populations average below 300 pounds. However, in any given lion or tiger face-off topic, these guys always insist on their biggest subspecies of their chosen big cat for the debates. So... within several of the largest brown bear subspecies, a 1,000 pound specimen is nothing unusual. *Edit and add: I also give the same estimation ( 19 out of 20 ) for any full-grown male brown bear 600+ pounds against any living big cat
