qwaszx! Unlike previous famous monster face-offs, there will be a clear winner. One will fall. However, I can assure you, neither will die. Too much ka-$$$-ching involved. I have already watched it yesterday. I won't reveal any spoilers but you are right, there is a lot of action. movie theater or streaming?

King Kong defeated 3 T. rex on his own in one of the versions. Yeah, but ( IMO ) it was those "over-the-top" action scenes that ruined what could otherwise had been the greatest King Kong movie ever. But, because of several exaggerated action scenes ( ridiculous ), the old classic 1933 King Kong remains the best. I still consider the King Kong vs T-rex ( one ) as the best Hollywood fight in film history. In fact, my take on that fight was... when Kong defeated T-rex, it was at that point that he became KING Kong.

Note: I have not had a chance to watch this yet. Warning: I am a tough critic when it comes to "characters" that I like. I have been a fan of both Godzilla and Rodan ever since I saw them both in 1956 at the movies. I have been a fan of Kong ever since I saw the original classic on tv at some point in time as a kid. I will just have to overlook the size changes; especially concerning Kong. But, other than that, I just hope they don't get too stupid with it.

I'll be seeing the movie here in an hour or two but I I really won't have much to compare it with since I haven't seen too many of the Kong movies except for 2005 and 1976 versions to compare it with. I thought those movies were for their time just average at best. I never did get to see the skull Island version however.
CGI seems to be getting better and better and more realistic as the years go on so from a special effects point of view I suspect this one will probably be by far the best, but that doesn't always mean the storyline is the best. I will give you my honest review without giving away the story and the outcome.
Sometimes you just need to look at it from an entertainment standpoint and just enjoy it for what it is, even though Hollywood has on occasion tried to get a little ridiculous.

Reply #36 - Tom. you should make it a point to see the original 1933 classic. The movie where Kong was born.

Reply #36 - Tom. you should make it a point to see the original 1933 classic. The movie where Kong was born. I probably have it's just been a while. I thought the 1976 version with Jeff Bridges was a decent movie, not great by any means, but ok. I also enjoyed the 2005 version of Kong. Now on to what I just saw. Oh... boy! where do I begin with this latest Godzilla vs Kong. Before I give my comments I will just say watching this movie on a giant 70 ft. screen definitely adds to the movies strengths which means CGI and fight scenes. If your a fan of the old school Kong or Godzilla movies you may be a little disappointed with this one. I don't say that in a bad way just that this movie is anything but old school or traditional. If your a CGI junkie this movie is right up your alley. The running time on this movie is not long, i believe 113 minutes and a lot is crammed into that time frame. In other words the movie moves along at a pretty good clip. I basically enjoyed the movie as a whole but was not impressed (just me) I'm an old guy, thus old school like brobear. This movie will undoubtedly be a hit with the younger crowd and even though there was probably only 30 or so of us in the theatre on a weekday at noon, I'd say half were young kids along with their parent. Plenty of action as the trailer teases us with, but the story line didn't do a whole lot for me, too far out there for my tastes. However, the very end did reel me back in a bit. If you want more in depth analysis PM me for more details. I give Godzilla vs Kong 3 out of 5 stars. There you have it.

The 2005 version of Kong was superb CGI. I thought that their "depression era" New York, City was right on the money. And you could see the emotion in Kong's eyes. Great CGI - until they went too far with guys running within a dinosaur stampede; the guys surviving an attack by thousands of giant bug-monsters who have been starving for human flesh, and then ( to top it off ) Kong becomes "Kung Fu Gorilla" fighting off a pack of mutated T-rexes. In the 1976 movie as well as this "King of Skull Island" version, Kong always walks upright like a person. So yeah; I guess I'm a tough critic.

Your a tough critic but that's ok. I'll leave you with one more thought before I shut my mouth on the current movie. It has a little "Terminator" flavor to it. That's it no more, go see it.

The classic 1933 King Kong is still my favorite version - the original. Movies to watch, in this order: 1- The Beast of Hollow Mountain (1956) - An American cowboy living in Mexico discovers his cattle are being eaten by a giant prehistoric dinosaur ( T-rex ). 2- The Valley of Gwangi (1969) - A cowboy named Tuck Kirby seeks fame and fortune by capturing an Allosaurus living in the Forbidden Valley and putting it in a Mexican circus. His victim, called the Gwangi, turns out to have an aversion to being shown in public. 3- King Kong (1933) - A film crew goes to a tropical island for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal ape who takes a shine to their female blonde star. He is then captured and brought back to New York City for public exhibition.

I have ordered ( Amazon ) the original story "King Kong" by Merian C. Cooper - printed in 1932. Original copies start at $850 and goes up much higher. But I got a reprinting for $11. I also ordered the prequel "When Kong Became King" which cost me $5.

"When Kong Became King" by Peter William Turner - 2014. Before his ill-fated encounter with the Western world, chronicled in the epic 1933 movie 'King Kong', the giant gorilla's earlier life has remained a mystery - until now. 'When Kong Became King' fills that void with an imaginative account of those formative years, including his brief relationship with his sole-remaining parent, whose untimely death leaves the juvenile gorilla orphaned in a dangerous world. It also tells of Kong's first encounter with the native tribe who live behind the great wall, and a special relationship that is forged with a young boy named Kalobi, who later embarks on a dangerous quest to prove that Kong is still alive - in the hope of reuniting a tribe that has become divided by religious hatred over who is the true deity of Skull Island.
