Please remember, the topic here is "Two male lions vs large male Kodiak bear". The "Lion vs Tiger" debate is not allowed here.

People tend to think of the ultra-aggressive lion as some kind of unstoppable force. These people do not consider the fact that neither in Africa nor in Gir National Park, are there any large predators even close to the size of a lion. I believe that a tiger will stand a better chance in a face-off against a grizzly than would a lion. Well tigers have more of a history with bears as opposed to lions. That's why I personally give a tiger a slightly better chance. Exactly. Tigers and bears have lived among each practically forever. They know each other's habits. A lion would charge in recklessly ( IMHO ).

Yet, after 1 million years, all a tiger knows how to do is ambush a bear, not fight him head on, thus knowing him for so long does not mean much as it pertains to a face to face battle.

Yet, after 1 million years, all a tiger knows how to do is ambush a bear, not fight him head on, thus knowing him for so long does not mean much as it pertains to a face to face battle. It means that he has a real good idea of how such a face-off will most likely turn out. It means that he knows better than to choose a mature boar grizzly as potential prey.

Thats true, definitely agree there. The tiger knows to stay clear or most likely die.

This thread has been not only fun to read but to participate in. I see everyone has their opinions and that's good. Just make sure and state that if you feel a little spirited in your post. 😀

I may make a thread similar to this but with a smaller bear.

I may make a thread similar to this but with a smaller bear. You cannot go too much smaller in a contest against two lions. Even a Russian black grizzly would probably lose against two lions ( more often than not ).

American black bear vs African lion/Bengal tiger/Siberian tiger will be alright since their weights do overlap.

I've added a poll to this matchup; probably will do so to some other matchups too.

I greatly dislike these two-or-more against one face-off topics. Two prime male lions against one massive Kodiak bear - this could easily go either way. I voted on the bear, which *might come out on top perhaps 6 out of 10 - maybe. If the bear wins this fight, he will walk away with some serious battle scars.

brobear Agreeing with you here; also giving a slight edge to the Kodiak bear here.

Comparison of their skulls (362.5mm for an East African lion and 458mm for a Kodiak bear):

The African lion has the longer and larger canines but the Kodiak bear has the larger and heavier skull.

I am most likely the biggest Kodiak bear fan here, hence my name. But 2 lions is 1 lion too much. Voted for the coalition. Like brobear said, i also dont like this kind of match ups.

I will be honest, any large 2 predators vs another single one is gona have the 2 winning. 2 large male lions working together would defeat 1 kodiak bear probably 8/9 out of 10 times. Is not even a debate. 8-9/10? we cannot still forget that one bear could literally send one lion flying with its full power if really wants, and that bear is still the superior grapler, more deadly bite and the durability of bear is insane compared to lions here.

Bears mostly take their time to kill, it wont kill or disable a large male lion so fast. While the bear is focusing on one, the other lion is on the bear's back. A large male lion is no joke, let alone 2 working together.

2 lions at 371.3 pounds each = 742.6 pounds against one male Kodiak bear at 1077.3 pounds. Like two teenage boys trying to beat-up Stone Cold Steve Austin. We know that one will be defeated quickly; either killed or crippled within the first few seconds. We also know that a big cat ( even a prime male lion or tiger ) cannot make a quick kill of a full-grown male brown bear. Once the fight begins, it will only take a moment before it is one big angry boar Kodiak bear vs one lone lion. ( IMO ). *Quote: A large male lion is no joke. *Neither is a big male tiger; but they avoid adult male brown bears.
