Some bigcat fans say that a huge brown bear can kill a male lion or tiger but i tend to disagree. For defeating a lion or tiger, the brown bear does not need to be "huge" because an average adult male grizzly can also easily win. Same case for polar bear. When talking about brown bear vs lion or tiger. I donot say,
"A huge brown bear can kill any fully grown male big cat."
Instead i say that,
"A fully grown grizzly can kill any male bigcat."

Well an average male polar bear is much heavier and stronger than any extant and extant big cat.
A for the grizzly, the average male outweighs the tiger and lion.

An Ussuri brown bear can easily defeat a tiger. Even that is a mismatch. So, imagine the polar bear.

Since a polar bear will obviously demolish an Ussuri brown bear, it can do so to any big cat (including the liger and smilodon populator). Just look at the picture.

True; consider that the Ussuri brown bear is pretty-much at weight-parity with Smilodon populator. In a fight between those two, I would wager on the bear. To defeat a bear ( more often than not ) a big cat needs a substantial weight advantage.

What I often hear is polar bears allegedly having a "slim neck"; that's not true. Comparing them to other ursids of similar size their neck will be a bit on the thinner end as their build is tailored towards length but due to their massive size a polar bear's neck circumference should be up there with the biggest brown bears imo. The record for Ursus arctos is somehwere in the 150cm region; the biggest polar bears out there who might come close to the 1000kg mark could very well measure the same I believe.

Polar bear can beat any bear species except kodiak bear though the polar bear may even succeed in winning from the kodiak bear.
Brobear, i really appreciate your statement that a big cat needs more weight too beat a bear. I my ownself has always said to other people indirectly. People say that a very large brown bear can defeat tiger but i disagree as i always say that the bear does not need to be so large to win, it is just enough for the male brown bear to be just grow as an adult. I say that an adult male brown bear can defeat any kind of big tiger.

Polar bear can beat any bear species except kodiak bear though the polar bear may even succeed in winning from the kodiak bear. Theoretically yes, however when ever the two meet in the wild it's normally the Polar bear that retreats. Not a Kodiak Bear mind you but a barren ground Grizzly which is much smaller but highly aggressive. Their home ranges can overlap and IMO we will see more and more confrontations between the two as the polar ice caps continue to melt.

There is a difference between us and big cat fanboys when we or they criticize an account. For example,
If we disprove the account of lion or tiger killing a polar bear so we have solid reason i.e. the polars suffer in captivity as they become sick or overheated and are not as healthy as in wild. Now this is a reason, not an excuse. Our reason is sensible and reasonable even for a common person. While if you show fan boys the account of polar bears killing lions, so they would call it fake without giving any true. They will say that the source is fake or anything else.

Killing polar bear with neck bite would take long long time by suffocating, talking about 10 minutes or more

Killing polar bear with neck bite would take long long time by suffocating, talking about 10 minutes or more This gives the polar bear plenty of time to retaliate and kill whatever big cat using its flexible forearms and superior grappling ability. Even one polar bear finds it hard to kill another (two males of similar weights).

Killing polar bear with neck bite would take long long time by suffocating, talking about 10 minutes or more A tiger always kills a bear with a bite to the base of the neck ( or attempts to ). This is a bite to the back of the neck, at the base of the skull. The aim is to break the vertebrae. Consider that from the front, a bear can much better use his massively strong arms and claws.

It is also dangerous to ambush a bear twice your weight.

It is also dangerous to ambush a bear twice your weight. Any big cat would have to be in total desperation mode to attempt an ambush on a polar bear. Thus far, we have no confirmed account of a tiger ever ambushing a bear his own weight. To ambush a bear double his size is a fantasy.

The account of Dale ‘ambushing’ male Ussuri brown bears twice his weight has already been debunked by Siberian Tiger Project. A male polar bear will beat any big cat. Anyway, just a suggestion: I believe we should give this thread a rest since it is a mismatch or change it to polar bear sow vs any big cat.

I went through the capture report on Siberian tigers for a second time and it appears that the sole was cut off when measuring their shoulder height; they should be equal in terms of proportions compared to Bengal tigers, so here a revised version:

Reply 235. That picture once again proves that the polar bear will easily defeat a Siberian tiger. Nice revised picture comparison. Also the polar bear in that picture is a mature specimen, a young specimen will be white while older specimens are yellowish white or cream.

OldGreenGrolarThank you; I tried to find two prime males for this comparison. In the polar bear you can see it through his color and the Siberian tiger was described as a big male from some zoo, can't remember precisely.

Captive tigers do get larger than their wild counterparts. Captive polar bears on the other hand are smaller than their wild counterparts.
