Those small polar bears we see in old circus and zoo pictures are often full-grown males the size of black bears. They were simply poorly fed; mostly vegetation.

1904 Lion kills a polar bear, two Tibet bears, and nearly kills a tiger biting it in the back. Source, click OCR text in below link www.newspapers.com/newspage/135352445/First off, we do know that captive polar bears in mid 1900s were kept in poor condition. Second off, Tibetan bears? Black bears or brown bears? Even so Tibetan brown bear is one of the smallest brown bear subspecies, of course a lion would kill it. I can't read the paper unless I "join" and I'm not joining. So, what does the paper have to say?

And was there ever an account of a bear killing a good sized male lion? If so please show it.
Sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit conflicted on this debate.

Sorry for just appearing out of the blue but I do have a question. Now that some of these accounts are disproven how many confirmed accounts are left of lions killing bears? How many of these bears were brown bears? I will also add; realistically, no story from a newspaper dated in the 19th century or early-to-mid 20th century can be confirmed as fact. Those newspapers, due to tough competition, relied heavily on sensationalism to sell their newspapers.

Was there ever a lion killing bear or bear killing lion account that was dated after that time period even?
