Well the own source says "Approximate weight 1500 pounds" Number probably taken from a book. 1500-pounds seems to be a popular number for "giant" brown bears. But, it is a big bear, regardless of the young lady's height.

Well the own source says "Approximate weight 1500 pounds" Details: Giant Kodiak Bear taken by W. M. Hollinger, accompanied by son Franklin, at Kodiak Island, Alaska. One of the largest bears ever seen by man. Approximate weight 1500 pounds. On exhibit at the Blue Mountain Hotel, Harrisburg, Pa. There it is.

One of the largest bears ever seen by man. Approximate weight 1500 pounds. On exhibit at the Blue Mountain Hotel, Harrisburg, Pa. There it is. Meaningless. It was a large Kodiak bear that this father/son team shot and killed. They were quite proud of their trophy ( mission accomplished ) and so of course it was one of the "biggest bears ever seen by man". Since it was very unlikely that these two hunters packed any form of scales to weight this bear - like I said - 1500-pounds is a popular weight for a huge brown bear.

/\ Yeah, weights by trophy hunters are unreliable. Kodiak bears are potentially able to surpass 1500 pounds.

Well, full grown adult male Kodiak bears average around 1077 lbs, so that would be the minimum weight of that bear.

But, it is a big bear, regardless of the young lady's height. Here's my crude estimation of height. Lets say the little lady is 5'6" give or take. That Bear is at least 3-4 ft taller than her, so that puts the Bears height roughly somewhere between 8.5 & 9.5 ft. If we use Bart as an example, I believe Bart was just over 9 ft and weighed 1500 lbs in his prime.

Reply #428: that is a pretty good claw wound. You can see like the paw shape on that wound.

The "when is a full grown brown bear" debate is over, hard research pays off. Here is the best Kodiak bear expert Will Troyer stating that Kodiaks gain weight until at least 10 years old. See time frame between 42:40 and 43:40.

These are most likely the two best experts on brown bears. Both stating 10 is the minimum age of full grown male brown bears. This completely debunks that famous brown bear chart that has the 6+ year old Kodiaks at 300 kg and some unknowing fanboys take as full grown Kodiaks.

From "Great Apes Longevity and Maturity" -quote: "Free-ranging mountain gorilla males are fully grown at approximately 15 years of age." Full-grown brown bear 10 years old and full-grown gorilla 15 years old. Its easier with the bull gorilla though - a silver back

Silverbacks also take no longer to reach sexual maturity compared to Kodiak bears.

Silverbacks also take no longer to reach sexual maturity compared to Kodiak bears. Gorilla's have a slightly longer lifespan than bears.

Although we know it should happen sometimes, this is the first time i read of bears killing bears at Kodiak island.
Will Troyer: "during my time at Kodiak we lost three bears while processing a total of two hundred or so. Two were killed by other bears before we arrived to process the bears and free them from our traps. Another we accidentally overdosed with drugs. Incredibly, we never had to kill an animal in self-defense.

Quote: "There were actually two enormous mounted Kodiak bears, one about 10 feet and the other about 11 feet tall, in the Marshall Field’s Men’s store, across Washington Street from their flagship store." *10 feet tall; the height of Bart the Bear. 11 feet tall; a foot taller.

I tried to figure out the tallness of the bear in the photo, which was shared there and that bear could have been around 10 ft tall. It´s always tricky to make exact estimations from photos, but that bear, seemed to be something in between 9-10 ft tall. If other bear was that bigger one, then given information was quite close to reality, imo.
