I think a polar bear sow with cubs will drive off a male Amur tiger too.

What I am saying King Kodiak.... noone is posting a face-off "subadult bear vs lion or tiger". There are many populations of brown bears. You could have weight-parity "Jaguar vs brown bear" - 300-pound jaguar vs 300-pound barren ground grizzly / Himalayan brown bear / Tibatan brown bear / Gobi bear. Or, you can have 450-pound lion or tiger vs 450-pound brown bear - Yellowstone grizzly. You could even do a 700-pound tiger vs 700-pound Ussuri brown bear. ALL full-grown male bears.

In the poll, up to now, the female has 5 votes, the male tiger 2 votes, and 50% has 1 vote.

brobear : Yes of course, but i just named you the most known brown bear subspecies. People mostly talk about Kodiak, Alaska peninsula, Kamchatka, European, Ussuri, Grizzly.
A Barren ground grizzly at 400 lbs would be an adult male, basically weight parity with a cat. In this case, i favour the bear 6/7 out of 10 times.

Nice. You can see why the male vs male was locked down, hehehehehe.

Same as with "Debate: Male Amur Tiger vs Female Ussuri Brown Bear", I gave these two a 50/50. In this case, the she-polar bear normally has a slight weight advantage over the tiger. No tiger has ever been known to kill a bear as big or bigger than himself.

I think a female polar bear is still too big for all extant big cats. Matching her up with a smilodon populator, American lion, etc might be interesting.

What mostly people on the thread think about this match? I voted that the sow polar bear will win 60% win because if a male bear can beat a male tiger at weight parity so a female bear would win from a male tiger at weight parity.

I voted for the polar she-bear also. She will normally have some weight advantage. She is larger than any bear that an Amur tiger would choose to ambush. Going face-to-face ( same as you ) I would give this to her at 6 out of 10.

I don`t think sow will have as much experience in fighting than tiger because its a female, but it does have significant size advantage and much better grappling skills. Bear still wins imo.

Although i agree with peter 99% yet i donot agree him on the point that the tiger would won from a bear on weight parity. At weight parity, a bear can only lose if the cat uses an ambush but in face to face the bear would absolutely win most times. Peter himself said that at weight parity the tiger would win but he told that the authorities on tigers and bears agree that at similar size, in face to face, a bear would win more often than not. Remember that? I cannot understand that why peter said the opposite of biologists.

Well; he likes tigers and that is his opinion. A weight-parity fight is rather tricky and is debatable. However, I have several reasons why I would wager on the brown bear at weight-parity. First of all, we must realize that at weight-parity, the tiger has the advantage of head-and-body-length as well as bipedal height. This is because, in what would be a more fair way of comparison, head-and-body-length parity, the bear proves to have a huge girth advantage, giving him a tremendous weight and strength advantage over the big cat. Nevertheless, a big male tiger has trouble getting past the defenses of even a female sloth bear only half his own weight. In fact, concerning every confrontation I have viewed on video, only once was the big male tiger able to break through the bear's defenses and kill the female sloth bear. I have also watched a video of a young-adult male lion vs an Asiatic black bear. The bear stood his ground throughout the ordeal. The tiger spent more time trying to find a way out that actually confronting the bear. Consider also, a tiger never - ever - ambushes a bear his own weight or heavier. At weight-parity ( IMO ), I would give it to the brown bear 7 or 8 times out of 10. Any other bear species against a tiger at weight-parity, 6 out of 10.

Imo brown bear winning at parity against tiger 7-8/10 is little too much. Imo the match is much closer than that.

Back on topic; Debate: Amur tiger vs polar bear sow - ( IMO ) polar she-bear takes it 6 out of 10.

These are my thoughts,
With a size advantage, any bear could beat any big cat 9 out of 10 times.
If there are fully grown male kodiak or polar bear so the fight could favour the bear 10 out of 10 times.
At similar size between males, bear would win 6/7 out of 10 and brown bear would win 8 out of 10 times.
In face to face fight on land, only big bovids, elephants, rhinos and hippoes can beat bears. Big cats are no match.😎

I believe that male Amur or Bengal tiger vs female polar bear would be a close fight. While I would wager on the she-bear, I would not bet very much. A female bear is not as strong as a male bear of equal size. But here's the thing about this contest... it is meaningless. Even should a male tiger defeat and kill a female polar bear, what would this prove? The tiger fans would not earn a feather for their hats.
