Quote: I would bet for the bear. Its a fighters, have good weapons, endurable and have more stamina. *I agree; but there is no need to repost the picture to say this.

Panthera fossilis was possibly the biggest ever Pantherine. How does it compare to a smilodon populator ?

Panthera fossilis was possibly the biggest ever Pantherine. How does it compare to a smilodon populator ? Smilodon populator 120cm ( 3 feet 11.28 inches ) - Panthera fossilis 130cm ( 4 feet 3.18 inches ). However, the thicker-built saber-toothed cat was heavier.

Unorthodox comparison; two tropical hornets.

26 millimeters is equal to 1.02 inches. 40 millimeters is equal to 1.57 inches. I would hate to find myself being chased by a swarm of either of these. My brother used to have a house where there was a tree in his front yard that, every year, hornets would build a big paper nest hanging from this one particular branch. It hung law enough to reach up and touch ( although we didn't ). Each year, he would allow the hornets to live and do what hornets do. But then, once they were done and the nest was deserted, He would cut down the nest, spray it with ( something ) to preserve it. Thus - a very unique house decoration.

The Asian giant hornet is more aggressive than the European hornet.

Clash of the Indian big cats: An Asiatic lion taking on a Bengal tiger.
Sometimes I go to that "well known but little admired forum" and read their "Lion vs Tiger" debates, just for laughs. They're up to reply #8930 now. One thing that I have been reading now for decades, "tigers are built longer than lions". I consider dog breeds such as the Dachshund or the Basset Hound. We will hear people talking about their elongated bodies. Actually, their bodies are quite normal. It's their short legs that cause them to appear so long. Probably, the same holds true for the tiger. As a forest cat, he has shorter legs than the lion who lives out in open country. I would wager that they each have the same number of vertebrae.

I just realized this particular tiger model actually represents a female specimen; I'll have to update a few older comparisons:

Reply #877 - If the Indian Rhino and the Hippo were ever to share the same environment, there would likely be some competition disputes as they both enjoy life along a river and both are grazers.

I went through the capture report on Siberian tigers for a second time and it appears that the sole was cut off when measuring their shoulder height; they should be equal in terms of proportions compared to Bengal tigers, so here a revised version:
