/\I agree with what you say but the male polar bears from Foxe Basin are still heavier than the rest of their kind. May I know your favourite bear?
Extinct animals are generally more robust than their extant counterparts. Therefore, it doesn’t surprise me that the cave bear will be more robust even if it is outweighed a little by the polar bear.

Could you make a size comparison about the grizzly bear vs Xenosmilus hodsonae when you have time please?

OldGreenGrolar My favourite bear? That's a very tough question... Now that I am thinking about it intensively, it would probably be a close battle between the polar bear and the sloth bear; the polar bear has a very slight edge if I am being totally true to myself. However, my favourite individual bear definitely is "Bart the Bear" and he always will be.

theundertaker45, we share the same favourite bear I guess: the polar bear. The glacier bear is a toss up.

Thanks again. The grizzly bear still looks like the more robust and stronger of the two.

Still there is data which says the Xenosmilus has stronger limbs but the grizzly has more flexible forearms for grappling and is stronger due to its shorter backbone.

Ussuri brown bear vs Xenosmilus hodsonae would be good too. It would be interesting to see the brown bear with the least develop shoulder hump compared to the Xenosmilus hodsonae.

The heavier Ussuri brown bear still has my vote.

Quote: African Lion vs Grizzly Bear (average sizes as a species). *Curious: Average size as a species; would this include all ( there are many ) subspecies of Ursus arctos in one package?

brobearIt would include all populations of Ursus arctos horribilis and all populations of Panthera leo inhabiting Africa.

The grizzly sow looks way less mascular than her male counterpart. Would you be able to do a size comparison between a female Ussuri brown bear and a lioness too?
