I am amazed by the Belgian Blue, it literally is a walking muscle. Look at his densely covered neck, a true monster.

When I look at these guys, and I've seen bison up close, and ( being a country boy ) I've seen some huge domestic bulls ), I know that any predator that attacks something like this, even by ambush, has courage. When you are looking at anywhere from 1500 pounds to better than a full-ton of big-bone and muscles with horns that can run and move surprisingly fast for so much bulk, any beast roughly a quarter its size ( or less ) needs to have heart to ambush one of these monsters.

Siberian Tiger vs Smilodon Fatalis (both are average sized; average shoulder height of Smilodon fatalis was determined through height/length ratio at max. size). *After the last Ice Age, many of the Pantherines survived while all of the saber-tooths went extinct. Evidently, a better design. Northwestern Wolf vs Yellowstone Grizzly. I believe that a large pack of wolves could destroy a grizzly; but at a heavy price.

Cave bears are heavier than most male polar bears on average. This polar bear must be from Foxe Basin.

OldGreenGrolar A few things we have to take into account here; the polar bear has a very thick fur and more gracile bones compared to his prehistoric cousin; the cave bear would also be "wider" than the polar bear when looking at them from above. The two individuals here should roughly be the same weight with the polar bear maybe being ~40-45lbs heavier. On average the cave bear and the polar bear should be around the same weight, however, the polar bear should edge out the cave bear in terms of length. A 2D comparison unfortunately can't give us a perfectly accurate representation of the individuals; we have to expand our horizon when looking at these comparisons and even though the cave bear looks smaller than the polar bear, he will be the same weight taking the previously mentioned aspects into account. That's also one of the reasons why a big cat looks heavier than a bear at equal weights when viewing them from the side, however, looking at them from above/the front will straighten things out.
