Question: are these all accurate comparisons? As accurate as we can find. We had a member here ( actually a moderator ) called Gurahl who has absent for both financial reasons and medical reasons. He was really good at creating size comparison pictures. To our sorrow, he recently passed away. We are still searching for a member with computer skills of that sort.

Ah sorry to hear that Yeah I would probably be the worst here for that type of stuff, but I just didn’t want to use any if they weren’t accurate

Don't anyone take this wrong, because I haven't a thing against geeks. But I have noticed over the years that geeks are a rarity among bear enthusiasts. Most bear enthusiasts are older or ( if not in age ) in maturity. Most of us are country boys or at least very country at heart. But we are in need of a geek - someone with those magical computer skills. Tom is great in his knowledge of computers as far as keeping our site in good shape; but we need someone who can basically create accurate artwork.

I guess I could share some size comparisons here,I started making them a few months ago. I usually keep to the HB-lengths of both animals and adjust the rest as measurements of shoulder hrights are rarely a standard measurement for animals, they vary in their approach all the time. It's just a pitty that I can't find any standard HB-length measurements for various bear populations except the Yellowstone grizzly and the Ussuri brown bear. So if you can find some information on Kodiak bears/polar bears or other bear species, it will really help me a lot (I am talking about scientific measurements, not the standard ranges on Wikipedia).

A comparison picture of a Yellowstone grizzly and an Ussuri brown bear would be interesting. Also can you do these: 1- sloth bear / Asian leopard comparison. 2- Montana black bear / cougar comparison. 3- Ussuri brown bear / Amur tiger comparison. We will seek the info you are requesting.

Thanks for the information brobear, do you have any side view picture of a male Kodiak bear available? It would be very good if the bear stood in an even horizontal line.

Thanks for the pictures, brobear, they are definitely helpful, especially the third one. I am now making a comparison between a Croatian/Slovenian brown bear and a Bengal tiger so stay tuned.

Okay folks, I've completed my first work comparing a 545lbs Croatian/Slovenian brown bear with a 440lbs Bengal tiger. I kept to the standard HB-length of the Bengal tiger (190cm) and adjusted the brown bear (this individual is a boar from Finland, I couldn't find any a suitable individual from Croatia/Slovenia) to the measurements we have of Yellowstone grizzlies and Ussuri brown bears as he is right in the middle. His HB-length should be in the 180-185cm region and the most important thing for me was to keep the weight difference accurate (I'll put a little signature at the bottom right corner of every comparison, kinda looks cool). Leave your thoughts below!

Reply #289 - your work is fantastic. I really love the background you chose for your comparisons. Kinda gets to the heart of the matter. Love your signature picture too.

Awesome comparison Taker. Bear is obviously more robust overall.

I did another comparison between a 165lbs Sri Lankan sloth bear and a 125lbs Sri Lankan leopard; I kept to the weight data on Wikipedia as I couldn't find nothing scientific about them. I adjusted the sloth bear to the weight of the leopard to have a fair comparison; note that this really is a sloth bear model, it seems like a sun bear as it was in the rain and all his fluffy hair had become wet. What do you think?

And my final comparison of today: a 255lbs Nepalese sloth bear vs a 165lbs Sri Lankan sloth bear.

I currently have two requests open which are Montana black bear/cougar and Ussuri brown bear/Siberian tiger; I'll probably post them tomorrow or on Monday . If you have any requests, just leave them here and I will create the comparisons as soon as possible. What I'll also publish is a comparison of all the eight great bear species, so stay tuned!

Could you possibly do a polar bear and Kodiak bear comparison?
