The head size on a panda is incredible. I just can't see a leopard beating a adult male panda in a face to face battle. Panda bears even have larger skulls than tigers. We have the comparissons posted somewhere.Yes I remember seeing that. Who would you wager on a fight between a giant pound and a bengal tiger?

I just wouldn't wager either way. The panda is a bear, therefore stronger than the leopard. Stronger bamboo-crushing jaws. But, I have no idea his fighting ability? Does he have the "heart" to fight? Enigma.

Giant panda vs bengal tiger? Panda bears are not much of a fighter, they are just known to fend off snow leopards. Bengal tigers average about 440 lbs, while pandas average from 220 to 250. Basically double. In this case the bengal tiger has to win 8/9 out of 10.

I just think a panda would have at least at least 35% chance of winning because of it's heavy built. Look at the small momma bear that fought off a dominant male tiger.

Yeah but the thing is that female sloth bear was not even close to killing that bengal tiger. The bear won because the tiger ran away at the end, but in a fight to the death, like locked in a cage, that little female sloth bear would have definatly died, she was all hurt.

I saw that fight too. The lioness did well and even bit the female asiatic black bear on the nose but the pantherine was still the first one to retreat. The video, however, shows that black bears are more passive than brown bears. A female brown bear would have reacted way more aggressively.

I only recently learned that there are no leopards living within the panda bear's domain. Nevertheless, an interesting topic.

Here is the only known video of an encounter between a grizzly and a jaguar. Looks like the jaguar backs down.

I remember watching that on Wild Kingdom a long time ago. Marlin Perkins said it was a very rare Mexican grizzly. Yes, the jaguar retreated at the sight of the grizzly. There was no confrontation.

I think even the average black bear can get a jaguar to retreat (even though the jaguar is one of the most powerful animal pound to pound and has the strongest skull biting jaws in the animal kingdom).

Quote: ..... (even though the jaguar is one of the most powerful animal pound to pound and has the strongest skull biting jaws in the animal kingdom). Is this information from Marvel or DC? The jaguar is the only living cat that kills with a bite to the skull because this big cat has no natural big prey in Central and South America. His bite force and physical strength ( according to Wildfact ) is similar to the tiger - weight-parity. Cat fan-boys used to argue that a jaguar was the strongest of the big cats ( pound-for-pound ) and stronger than a grizzly. They had the jaguar hyped-up to be a super cat. IMO - the jaguar is ( at size parity ) possibly the strongest of living cats. He does have a thick robust build ( for a cat ) but not similar to the build of a bear.

There are articles or sources which says the jaguar is pound to pound the strongest big cat. However, I still think that bears have stronger forearms than even jaguars at parity. Maybe these websites are exggegerating - as there are sources which say the leopard is pound to pound the strongest as well yet cougars are just as mascular if not more so than leopards.
To be honest pound to pound can be a relative term. sorry for my bad explanation here. People might say a jaguar is pound to pound stronger than a grizzly but mass increases faster than strength. At weight parity, the grizzly and the black bear and even the sloth bear will have stronger forearms than a jaguar and that enables the bears to control the fight.
I won't be easy to land a skull bite on a opponent which has stronger forearms and jaws of its own to inflict damage not to mention larger and longer claws to dig deeper. We might disagree on some things but at least we both agree the bear wins.

American Black Bear vs Jaguar ( typical mature males of each ). My assessment: Jaguar kills bear by ambush. Bear kills jaguar in face-to-face confrontation ( estimated ) 6 out of 10.

I second that and still believe the black bear will control the fight with its more powerful forearms.

I think the black bear wins this one. It has size and bulk in as an advantage.

I only recently learned that there are no leopards living within the panda bear's domain. Nevertheless, an interesting topic. I have read books saying that leopards and jackals are predators of giant pandas. However, I seriously doubt a leopard can take down a male giant panda let alone a female.

Leopards are more aggressive towards humans but cougars and jaguars are more aggressive towards other animals in general. Once again as you said this is subjective. The reason why I put the jaguar above the leopard is because the former is generally an apex predator in its own environment and would treat the latter as a smaller version of itself.
