kesagake Thanks bro. But when you see a long post like that, try not to use the quote button because its basically the same post one on top of the other. Read here:

If you want to quote my post, you can do this for example, reply #303........

Reply 300. That grizzly bear is relatively small. I have seen this picture in an old book when I was a child. The grizzly bear chased off the cougar which is patiently waiting to reclaim its meal.

Cougar vs Bear is a no-brainer. A mismatch with a black bear and overwhelmingly so with a brown bear or a polar bear. Even with a sun bear, the smallest of living bear species, I would wager on the bear.

I would favour a cougar over a sun bear.

I would favour a cougar over a sun bear. Am not so sure about that Cheetah. According to the general info that we have, Sun bears average around 140-150 lbs, while cougars average 132 lbs:
domainofthebears.proboards.com/post/48264/thread
So the sun bear has a very small weight advantage, in this case, barely a factor in my opinion. But still, the sun bear has very loose skin, and long sharp claws.
Also, the sun bear has the highest BFQ at the canines of any species of bear and much more than a cougar:
Sun Bear - 160.5 at the canine tips Cougar - 118.8 at the canine tips
domainofthebears.proboards.com/post/26903/thread
As for grappling ability, the sun bear was not included in the Grappling ability study, but all the bear species were in negative values (better than positive values), so the sun bear would most likely have a negative number. The cougar had a value of +1.633:
domainofthebears.proboards.com/post/26724/thread
Bone robusticity study, ML diameters of all four major limb bones:
Sun Bear - 39.38% Cougar - 35.66%
domainofthebears.proboards.com/post/26686/thread
So the sun bear is slightly heavier, most likely taller at the shoulders by little, more bite force at the canines, more robust limbs, most likely better grappler, loose skin, longer claws, more stamina, plantigrade. The cougar just has speed, agility, and more killer instinct. The sun bear wins 7/8 out of 10 times.

Sun bear for sure beats cougar imo.
Cougars have small skulls and jaws Relatively to their size as well. There is not much surface area with their bites and cannot deal as much damage.
Cougars got agility going on while its preaty nice and actually what keeps it so its not total mismatch, I still think its somewhat overrated advantage and I think grapling skills and forearm flexibility is good counter to it in most cases. Helps to like "block" the attacks and to knock opponement down more easily.

Study: Black bears are eating pumas' lunch
A camera-trap study in the Mendocino National Forest in Northern California reveals that black bears are adept at finding and stealing the remains of adult deer killed by pumas. This “kleptoparasitism” by bears, as scientists call it, reduces the calories pumas consume in seasons when the bears are most active. Perhaps in response to this shortage, the pumas hunt more often and eat more small game when the bears are not in hibernation.
The findings are published in the journal Basic and Applied Ecology.
Pumas, also known as mountain lions or cougars, are apex predators, but this doesn’t mean they can’t be threatened by other carnivores, said study lead author Max Allen, a research scientist at the Illinois Natural History Survey who studies big cats and other carnivorous mammals.
“Bears are dominant scavengers, and their large body size means that they can take carcasses from apex predators,” Allen said. He and his colleagues became interested in this phenomenon when they saw signs of bear scat and bear claw marks near puma kills.
“When a bear pushes a puma off of a carcass, the puma runs away, and the bear eats the deer. The puma then has to make another kill in order to get the energy it needs.”

I would wager that, when it comes to grappling ability, the sun bear just might make first place among bears. Along with the Andean bear, the sun bear is the most arboreal of the bears. A lot of limb usage there. His loose skin, like that of a Chinese Shar-Pei ( which, by the way, was first bred as a fighting dog ) gives him a huge advantage in a "wrestling match". He has the longest canines as well as the longest claws, per size, of any bear. Those long claws are deeply hooked. He has the strongest bite-force among bears. Add to this the fact that he has "bear strength", the cougar stands little chance.

When i was new on denates on youtube especially. I did not had reports or accounts ans i just knew anbout only one expert i.e. clyde beatty. I mosttly focused on solood reason. From that time i use a heading called "In their smaller cousin forms", in tiger vs brown bear debate. My point in it was to explain that" if black bear dominates cougar, sloth bear dominates cougar and snow leopard avoids panda so why this thing is not present in tiger and brown bear. If smaller bears dominates smaller big cats so why cannot the bigger bear (brown bear) cannot dominate the bigger big cat (tiger). Enlarge the leopard and cougar in tiger and then enlarge sloth bear and black bear into brown bear so the winner." Through this i mostly won a part of debate in youtube.

Reply #313 - exactly. I had "done my homework" at one point and showed that the size ratio between a cougar and a black bear, a leopard and a sloth bear, a brown bear and a tiger are all fairly even.

Wonder what puma fans think about that. In Asia, it works the same way between the leopard and the sloth bear.
