Old Yeller is the quintessential dog movie. I also read the book. Both the book and the movie are classics. Not a movie but another quintessential dog TV series. Rin Tin Tin. aired back in the 50's. Of course It would be a disservice if I didn't also mention another dog TV series Lassie. Lassie was the most famous dog of all time. "Lassie Come Home" from book to movie. Then the long-running Lassie TV series. First with Jeff, then with Timmy, then some forest rangers I believe. Rin Tin Tin was a popular Saturday morning TV show in the '50's. Rinty and a little boy named Rusty lived at Fort Apache out west. Rin Tin Tin has an interesting history. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rin_Tin_Tin

Here's the trailer for Grizzly 2 Revenge. 15 ft. Grizzly attacks concert goers in Yellowstone park. Hmmm...
It's interesting to note that this film was actually shot in 1983 and was the sequel to the 1976 film. However, financial backing was lost and the film put on the shelf till now. You'll notice a very young George Clooney and Charlie sheen both with cameo rolls.

Like the original; a low-budget ( scary ) movie about an over-sized ( impossibly big ) grizzly on a killing rampage - perfect.

It was told that the adult Ben was portrayed by an old, retired, female, circus bear named "Bozo"... all I know.

That is correct, however the orphaned cub in the early episodes that Adams adopted was non other than Bart #1.

( IMO )... Old Yeller is the essential dog movie. ( 1957 ) Black Beauty is the essential horse movie. ( 1946 ) Jaws is the essential shark movie. ( 1975 ) Lake Placid is the essential crocodile movie. ( 1999 ) Jurassic Park is the essential dinosaur movie. ( 1993 ) Orca is the essential orca movie ( for now ). ( 1977 ) The Edge is ( for now ) the essential brown bear movie. ( 1997 ) *I just now finished watching what I thought would be a B-grade Bummer movie. It wasn't. Eye of the Beast is the essential giant squid movie. ( 2007 )

Bart died peacefully at home in Heber City, Utah, after a decline in his health this year. He was 21 years old. Bart lived a supremely outsized life filled with the love and care of his trainers and lifelong companions, Vital Ground co-founders Doug and Lynne Seus. We know that many of you discovered Vital Ground and our conservation mission through Bart II and his predecessor, Bart the Bear. Whether his mighty presence captured you through film or in person, we are grateful for your connection to grizzlies and for Bart’s life and legacy as a conservation ambassador for his wild cousins. Bart leaves behind a line of film credits to which any actor would aspire, from Into the Wild to Game of Thrones to his recent role in a highly popular ad for our partners at Kodiak Cakes. More importantly, he leaves an enormous legacy of grizzly bear conservation. During his two decades as a Vital Ground ambassador, Bart’s charisma helped conserve and enhance hundreds of thousands of acres of habitat for his fellow grizzlies and all the species that share their range, from elk and moose to bull trout, butterflies and plants. Lynne Seus says, “Where the grizzly can walk, the Earth is healthy and whole.” Bart was a grizzly who walked the Earth with intelligence, power, grace and purpose. All of us who knew him were made more whole by his incomparable spirit. We will miss Bart greatly and his memory will inspire us as we work to ensure his massive footprint endures for future generations across the wild landscapes of grizzly country.

Sad deal. I wonder if Honey bump is still around as they're brother and sister? When the orginal Bart passed Honey bump and Bart 2 were given to the Seus's as orphans and replaced the original Bart as a trained movie Bear. Not sure if more ophans will eventually replace Bart 2 or not? Dougs getting up there in years too so how long before he physically can no longer do this?

As for the movies, its easy to know which "Bart" plays the part. Bart #1 is in 20th century movies while Bart #2 is in 21st century movies. As for "Vital Ground", I suspect the family will keep that going. As for, who will become the next "Grizzly Superstar"... ?
