Oooh, I hated that scene. This is why our imaginative African grizzly would have to choose carefully where to enjoy water. But, that aside, what is your favorite bear movie?

Could you list out the names of the bears films as I have not watched one except the grizzly maze. Golden compass is my favourite due to the existence of armored polar bears that can talk and fight. I also like the bear 1988 film.

'The Bear' is probably thus far the best grizzly movie yet ( although I just can't bring myself to rank it up there with 'Old Yeller' ). Based on a true story. In the book, 'The King Grizzly', the author, hunter-turned-naturalist" is the young hunter that 'Thor' the 'King Grizzly' spares. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bear_(1988_film)

For a pure Bear movie, The 1988 Disney film The Bear is probably the best IMO. The Edge with sir Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin staring the original Bart is good to.

Disney's "The Bear" was a very good movie, but lacking in ( something ). Not really up there with "Old Yeller". "Jaws" and "Lake Placid" kept you on your seat without falling under the category of "horror movie". I also enjoyed "The Edge", a very good movie. But, we still have no stand-alone quintessential bear movie.

But, we still have no stand-alone quintessential bear movie. We'll for one it's lacking in Dialogue, but that was intentional as this is about two Bears as the main focus. It works for me as you see this almost magical relationship develop between this orphaned cub and this gigantic adult male Brown bear, which would almost for sure never happen in the wild.
"The Bear" is probably going to be as close as it gets for an actual Hollywood movie purely focused on the Bear. Most movies made today that need a Bear as part of the plot, the Bear will be an integral part of the plot but not the whole plot. In other words, the story line includes a Bear but is not the main focus. I think you could classify 'Inside the Grizzly Maze" The Edge and a bunch of others into that catagory.

Agreed. I had also read the book; "King of the Grizzlies" from which the movie was adopted. One main difference between the book and the movie; in the movie, "The Bear", the cub was a grizzly, but in the book it was a black bear cub. Also, on the movie you never hear the men call the king grizzly by the name he was known by - Thor.

Nope never seen that one either. OK, I have to ask you this. Where do you live. If the live in the U.S.A., never watching Old Yeller is like never watching Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, or a John Wayne movie. Next to "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" this is probably the most watched movie in America.

Old Yeller did have a face off with a she bear but its because one of the people refuse to let go of a bear cub trying to escape.

Old Yeller is the quintessential dog movie. I also read the book. Both the book and the movie are classics.

Old Yeller is the quintessential dog movie. I also read the book. Both the book and the movie are classics. Not a movie but another quintessential dog TV series. Rin Tin Tin. aired back in the 50's. Of course It would be a disservice if I didn't also mention another dog TV series Lassie.
