Bears in antiquity ( Tricks against prey )- Wikipedia
“Aelian observed that when a bear preys on a bull, instead of fighting it head-on, it wrestles with it before putting it in a head lock and bellowing until the bull is dead [N.A.6.9]. Pliny also describes this tactic, clarifying that it made possible by the bear’s weight [N H.8.54].”

Is that true that an asian black bear can kill an adult water buffalo by necking its neck? I think that it can be possible as barren ground grizzly bear can kill a musk ox so a black bear could do so. Whats your opinion?

IF a big boar Asiatic brown bear can kill a water buffalo; among the world's biggest bovine, then he can certainly kill a musk ox ( IMO ).

From 'Brown Bears' - 'North American Brown Bear - Grizzly.' - Reply #6: "If there be straggling grizzlies who wander about like gypsies, they are the rare exception: the nearest to them were the few "buffalo grizzlies," those that in old days followed the migrating buffalo herds."

Here is another problem with tigerfans, they say that tigers can kill elephants much larger than themselves in face-off but there are many sources stating that tigers have zero chances against any bovid face to face. Now here is the problem that in face off, a tiger cannot win from any bovid so how it is going to kill elephant?
"Tigers does not stand any chance against any bovid face-to-face."

I watched a video once of a tiger who came very close to killing a wild bovid ( didn't recognize the species ). Yes, it started off face-to-face which I'm sure is not the common practice. But, the tiger managed to work himself around and attack from one side. The only thing that prevented the tiger from making his kill was the herd defending their member. The tiger retreated at that point. Head-on, you are right.

Big cats are not face to face fight, except lion. Big cats cannot kill bovines in face-off. Mostly they would try to flee when confronting a bovid face to face. However, bears do perform better against bovids in face-off. The proof is the the grizzlies killing bulls in arenas and buffaloes killing tigers in cage fights.
An interesting thing to consider that grizzlies sometimes exceeding in killing four bulls one after another. On the otherhand, a single buffalo was pitted against two tigers at the same time but still the buffalo won. When i was on quora so to prove that a bear is a better fight i said,
"To know about that who is the better face-off fighter, just see the staged fights in which bears sometimes killed two bulls and tigers could not even killed a single one."
Even i am permitted so can i post some accounts of bulls and buffaloes killing tigers?

ASIATIC BLACK BEAR
"eats insects and larger animals as well and has been know to prey on domestic animals, killing animals as large as adult water buffalo."
I read on wikipedia that they kill adult watee buffaloes by breaking their necks.

Asian water buffalo (Bubalus arnee) weigh up to 2600 pounds, and their horn span averages 3 feet long. The individual in the below photo has an horn span of about double the size of the average. The largest known horn span of an Asian water buffalo was from a specimen shot in 1955–it had an astounding horn span of 13 feet 10 inches. The extinct long-horned bison (Bison latfrons) had horn spans up to 7 feet long, but it seems likely the largest individuals had horn spans even longer than the record specimen of Asian water buffalo shot during 1955. Long-horned bison are estimated to have reached weights between 2700-4400 pounds–significantly heavier than Asian water buffalo–and if these estimates are accurate, some individuals probably had horn spans exceeding 14 feet long. The bison has the much thicker neck and heavier built. Not surprising if it is harder to kill the former by the looks of it.
