Brobear, did you order this book already? "Across the Ussuri Krai"
domainofthebears.proboards.com/post/22500/thread
I will order it today. I got a feeling there could be some interesting things. This is what we need, very rare books of hunters in the RFE. No; I'm not financially able just now. Too much on my shoulders. I hope you make some interesting discoveries.

www.psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/animal-emotions/201912/grizzly-bear-expert-explains-who-these-carnivores-really-are?fbclid=IwAR2pTjQQmmMDyw64TtSbgM9yNjhQvqQ-4KY5tbcWWuXjVcNeILF1e7iyj3Y Grizzly Bear Expert Explains Who These Carnivores Really Are An interview with Dr. Barrie Gilbert about his myth-busting book, "One of Us." Posted Dec 26, 2019 "Barrie Gilbert's fascination with grizzly bears almost got him killed in Yellowstone National Park. He recovered, returned to fieldwork, and devoted the next several decades to understanding and protecting these often-maligned giants...Drawn from his decades of experience, One of Us: A Biologist's Walk Among Bears explodes myths that depict grizzlies as bloodthirsty beasts that 'kill for pleasure' and reveals the intelligent, adaptable side of these astonishingly social animals." "Gilbert’s new book is called One of Us: A Biologist’s Walk Among Bears. He believes scientists themselves have contributed to the grizzly problem by over-managing bears with excessive capturing and collaring, a practice that Gilbert believes 'is actually making bears man-haters, and in my book, I talk about it.'”

My new book just arrived "Across the Ussuri Krai" written by famous Russian naturalist Vladimir Arsenyev. He explored the Russian far east for 30 years. I am willing to bet i can find some very interesting things on bears and tigers here.

We had this topic. Seems to be lost. Here is a book worth reading. A smaller book, aimed at kids ( ages 10 to 15 ) but very good information. I have that book

I found the topic on the bear's "medical abilities" interesting. Self healing - thus the Indian legends of the "Medicine Bear". I no longer have this book. Can you post this info?

Nice. I have read both the Bear Almanac and the Grizzly Almanac. I enjoyed the book; lots of great info... but I'm still waiting on ( what I would call ) The Complete Ursus arctos Book.

It could include EVERYTHING about them

Nice. I have read both the Bear Almanac and the Grizzly Almanac. I enjoyed the book; lots of great info... but I'm still waiting on ( what I would call ) The Complete Ursus arctos Book. What this ( wishing-well ) book would contain: 1- basic bear evolution. 2- brown bear evolution. 3- information on each known extinct subspecies of brown bear. 4- information on each living subspecies of brown bear. 5- as for Ursus arctos lasiotus - everything known and documented concerning the tiger / brown bear relationship in Russia - in detail. ( also grizzly and wild boar ). 6- grizzly / wolf relationship... ( and other predators ). 7- grizzly / bison relationship.... ( and other large herbivores ). 8- historical grizzly in N. America. 9- historical brown bear of Europe. 10- brown bear anatomy / morphology... bite force / bone density etc. 11- Amur brown bear morphology compared with Amur tiger. 12- Where the brown bear shared his domain with the lion. 13- Life in Pleistocene N. America ( for the grizzly ). 14- Life in Pleistocene Europe and Asia ( for the brown bear ). 15- Brown bear speed, stamina, and endurance. 16- Brown bear strength and leverage. 17- Intelligence. 18- Brown bear diet / hunting / scavenging / foraging / fising / etc. 19- Breeding and raising cubs / life of the she-bear. 20- Longevity. 21- The future of brown bears. Might also include: Bears of literature / movies / mythology / legend / etc. List may be out of proper order....

So this is a wish book that currently doesn't exist. Brobear I can't think of a better author for this all encompassing, end all to the Bear enthusiasts around the world than YOU... You could pull all the info from this site and elsewhere (listing references from your sources of course) and put it all under one cover.

Thanks for the compliment Tom, but I would want actual biologists, paleontologists, historians, animal trainers, etc. involved in this massive undertaking. It will never happen; but wouldn't it be great if it did?

MY NEXT BOOK:
"THE GRIZZLY IN THE SOUTHWEST"
In this lively, historically accurate account, David E. Brown chronicles the demise of the grizzly bear in the Southwest. He presents the personal narratives of those who knew grizzlies, accounts of hunters and administrators in wildlife management agencies, and the popular legends and lore of the grizzly that one would hear around the campfire. Scientists, Southwest historians, and those interested in America’s wildlife will appreciate this readable study of the bear’s life history and of the unique spirit of adventure associated with the grizzly bear-a spirit that passed from southwest game ranges with the expirpation of the species in the first half of this century. This edition includes a new foreword by Charles Jonkel and a new preface, in which the author discusses the latest developments in the debate over the grizzly’s place in the Southwest.
