His name was Shadow here. Why his name is not still listed, I don't know ( or don't remember ). He was a great poster and provided some really good info. Then, just like with verdugo, he disappeared one day. I do remember, his stay was short-lived.

I'm assuming Shadow knows about the Domain of the Bears? He used to post here. I'm sure he checks us out. Should he have any problems with our "stealing his work", I will have no problems deleting and offering an apology. What I would really like is his return to the Domain. What? Shadow was never here. His only forum has only been Wildfact thats it.

Well; maybe I'm having one of those "phantom memories" - that one thinks he remembers. Or... maybe he was here for some time as a non-member... back when a visitor could post.

Just to clarify things: I am not the one who started this thread even though the op seems to be mine 😉. Brobear has moved my post from another thread here.
Some sources say the Siberian tiger ruled the Taiga and others say the Ussuri brown bear does so. I am not knocking back any of the sources here but I believe that being the apex predator doesn’t always mean being the strongest. The male Ussuri brown bear is the strongest land predator (not full time) not only because it outweighs the tiger but because of its morphology.
Orcas are called the apex predator of the ocean yet they a full grow female right whale can hold her own against a small pod.
In Sri Lanka, leopards are probably the apex predator yet the sloth bear is the stronger one.

Quote: I believe that being the apex predator doesn’t always mean being the strongest. *This is true. The Amur tiger is the apex predator of the R.F.E. He is the beast feared the most by all the large herbivores of the Russian taiga. But the brown bear is the "master of the taiga", the one single animal strictly avoided by the apex predator. The "Master of the Taiga" is the one animal that the apex predator fears even to ambush.

I am unable to read Russian but I guess it means the master of the Taiga update is the Ussuri brown bear? Employees of the “Reserved Podlemorye” told about the “change of power” At the northernmost part of the taiga of the “Reserved Podlemorye” in Buryatia, the “owner” has changed. - We previously talked about the "owner" of the northernmost part of the taiga of the "Reserved Podlemorye", a very large and over-aged bear. Camera traps registered his presence in the lands within a radius of about 10 km, but in the summer season of this year he no longer appeared on the shooting, - said senior researcher Gennadiy Yankus. At the same time, more often than others "posed" a handsome bear in a fur coat of almost black color. He is middle-aged by his physique. This bear has diligently marked the trees along the many paths. - And on a twilight September morning, I managed to observe how he, with a formidable roar, chased along the shore of Lake Baikal after another bear, who risked a profit from a seal thrown onto the sand by a storm. Other inhabitants of the taiga, it seems, humbly did not notice the "change of power". Well, this is just a moment of a natural process, - concluded Gennady Yankus. As reported by "Baikal-Daily", at the beginning of September in the Federal State Budgetary Institution " Zapovednoe Podlemorye" they told about the mischievous bear - "ornithologist" . There are both brown and black bears around Lake Baikal. Looks like one lost his territory.

Aren't there more sources stating that the tiger is the master of the taiga?

Aren't there more sources stating that the tiger is the master of the taiga? Am not sure, but as you can see, after all the accounts that have been found recently on this thread, the amount is about equal. Even if the tiger has a few more, its just that, a very few more, wont make much difference. A few more or a few less is not the point. What is clear is that some people call the tiger the "master" and other people call the bear the "master". Both have accounts, not just the tiger. So lets just say, if there are 10 accounts stating the tiger is the "master", but there are also 8 accounts stating the bear is the "master", then who is the master? Both are referred as master as you can see in this thread.
But most importantly is which animal is the official symbol of Russia, and that is the bear:

Aren't there more sources stating that the tiger is the master of the taiga? The tiger has also been referred to with this same title, but not as common. www.rgo.ru/en/photo/striped-master-taiga STRIPED MASTER OF TAIGA

nocapakabl Holy Crap Nocap! And you asked which animal was referred more as the "master" ? Well you just answered yourself bro! With those new 3 accounts, am pretty sure the bear just surpassed the tiger. Never seen those 3 accounts, very nice!
The most important of the 3 is the second account, Realm of the Russian bear. Master of Taiga, because it has the participation of famous Russian naturalist Nikolai Drozdov, so very important.
