Reply 716. The wolverine looks bulkier. Personally, I believe the heaviest cat a wolverine can beat will be the clouded leopard since they are both at weight parity.

Clouded leopards have the longest canine of any cat in proportion to their size (not as long as that of Sabre tooth cats).

One of the classics; now in full frontal view! Siberian Tiger - Ussuri Brown Bear (max. shoulder heights; the difference is roughly the same as at average heights)

Reply 721. While the heights of both animals are equal at average weights, a 1000 pound exceptionally large male Ussuri brown bear will be taller.

@oldgreenone
The Ussuri brown bear has a shoulder height advantage of 20cm both on average and at max. weights; were you referring to the standing height? Even then the Ussuri brown bear should stand taller than the Siberian tiger.

@oldgreenone
Are you sure the tiger will stand taller then? The bear has the longer hindlimbs and their HB-length seems to be equal or even give a slight advantage to the brown bear. I'd say the bear would stand slightly taller by a few centimetres.

theundertaker45Reply #721: great comparison. even though the shoulder height difference is the same as at averages, the size difference is much more noticeable here than in the side view comparison.

I believe you have in mind a weight-parity contest; which we do not see in the Amur tiger and The Ussuri brown bear; neither in average nor maximum sized animals.

OldGreenGrolar : At average weights, the Ussuri brown bear is taller than the Amur tiger when standing bipedally. Bear average head and body length 196 cm, tiger 195 cm. And like Taker said, the bear has longer hind limbs than the tiger also, making it even taller on 2 legs.

Reply #730: Probably bear's average weight and measurements taken in typical fashion using bears from age 5 and up.
