Can we see a mountain grizzly ( Montana / Wyoming ) vs African lion... not weight parity but a dominant boar vs a pride king?

Reply #180, awesome Taker. And there you can clearly see why bengal tigers refused to fight Water Buffaloes in staged fights in Lucknow, India. I know thats a Cape buffalo, but still. Now you are not so tough when you are face to face and cant escape.

brobear Although the weight debate among the big bovids has never been settled so far as there isn't much official data, my top pick for the throne would be the wild yak.

My simple take on it is that a Siberian tiger from the 1960-1970s would take the majority of the bouts and that a modern Bengal tiger would be victorious against the modern Siberian tiger most of the time. Pound for pound I personally regard the Siberian tiger as slightly superior due to his proportionately larger skull and more compact build(shorter in height/length at equal weights). Nevertheless, a fight between specimens this closely related would also highly depend on the individuals involved of course.

Yeah that's the thing, even a battle of two identical (or near identical) species not unlike humans you're bound to have some more dominant and better skilled fighters. Look at Brooks falls Alaska where you see the largest congregation of Brown Bears in a single location at certain times of the year. You may have multiple adult males all looking to get that best fishing spot. Fights break out and in short order you find out who the dominant individuals are and who are the subordinates.

Undertaker: how about a comparison of an Eastern lowland gorilla and a Bengal tiger, both at about 450 lbs?

brobear I'd need a good picture of a Tibetan blue bear on all fours in a rather even position, I couldn't find a proper one so far.

Thank you for the efforts, brobear. However, I have looked for nearly an hour now and managed to find a picture which suits really well; I'll try to get it done as soon as possible. 👍

Thanks 'Taker. And if it takes a month or three; not a problem.

Kodiak Bear vs Plains Bison

Still a walrus is much harder to kill than a yak despite being less mobile. The yak is tough, I acknowledge that but the walrus has even more defended, its thick hide and blubber. True mate. Not to mention that particular walrus was a large adult male, (around 3300 lbs), so much larger than any wild yak.

Come on now guys; a yak is much more maneuverable than a walrus. Heavier on average than a bison or even a water buffalo and he is quick and energetic; with lethal horns.
