LIKE ITS BEEN TOLD MANY TIMES BEFORE IN THIS FORUM. HUNTERS FEAR BEARS MORE THAN BIG CATS. A BEAR WILL CHARGE A HUNTER EVEN WHEN WOUNDED.
”THE QUICKNESS OF A WOUNDED GRIZZLY IN CLOSING WITH HIS OPPONENT WAS TESTIFIED BY MANY CALIFORNIA HUNTERS”

Now i am in the chapter of California grizzlies and indians, some indian tribes feared grizzlies alot because they did not have the adequate weapons to kill them. Many indians were killed by grizzlies also.
by the way, this book is a hunter’s paradise. Most of it is how hunting parties hunted grizzlies, how many they killed, and the methods they used.

I have read this tale from "California Grizzly" and a few other books. The bull was one of the big range cattle that roamed in large herds for several hundred years before finally being rounded up by the scores of early settlers. They were, once domesticated ( again ) named "Texas Longhorns". When reading the story of the fight, and listening to the eye-witness, it is clear that he was cheering for the bull and, like nearly all pioneers into the West, hated grizzlies. The grizzly fought the bull. The grizzly died and, maybe a full minute later, the bull died. Was there really a victor?

The bull had his tongue a mess, and his eyes torn completely from their sockets. Also his whole face stripped to the bone. The bull could have died later, IF he did die, then it was a tie. Other than that, we have to give this victory to the bull. But it was probably the best animal fight i have ever read.

The big bull died mere moments after the bear.

“The victor and the vanquished streched dead upon the ground”
that means they both died? Oh man did not realize that. So then it was definatly a tie. To tell the truth, those 2 are winners, they both deserved to win. It was an awesome fight.

Lassoes, hunting horses, hunting parties. “My greatest thrill was hunting grizzly bears” a governor said.
why was there not a “anti-hunting” group that searched and killed all these hunters and their families? Making them suffer to death.
