Does it not irritate anyone else when you witness a debate where even those attempting to defend the bear in a big cat vs bear face-off does not seem to understand that there is a huge difference between a face-off and an ambush? Yes, when a tiger ambushes a sloth bear, he usually has very little trouble killing the bear. Same seems to be true in a chase-and-catch scenario. However, we have viewed numerous face-to-face encounters between tiger and sloth bear. Only once did the tiger manage to kill the bear.

Ironic that the beast of ML didn't noticed it. “Prolonged” means unusually long, so the bear gave the tiger a tough fight.

True; not only this sloth bear, but also the adult male tiger called Odyr fought a "prolonged" fight against a three-year-old adolescent brown bear name Misha (according to the tiger fans themselves).

/\ Isn’t the barren ground grizzly deadlier? The barren ground grizzly might be the most aggressive of bears; Gobi bears and Tibetan brown bears are also aggressive. But, more people have been killed by sloth bears. Of course, barren ground grizzlies don't live close to people. The sloth bear lives where there is a huge human population.

Reasons that why sloth bears arn't dominated by bengal tigers:
1. Sloth bears don't fear tiger presence and walk along with tigers without any anxiety.
2. Tigers don't effect their population number or activity patterns.
3. Sloth bears, more often than not, fend off tigers in frontal conforntations.

Yesterday in Dhela Tourism Zone, Jim Corbett National Park. A bone chilling moment was captured by Naturalist Mr. Saurav. A tiger and sloth bear come closer and fought for so long time. Finally tiger won. This was an amazing experience to see the survival of the fittest. For Jim Corbett National Park *Note; They fought for a long time and the tiger finally won; against a bear half his size. http://instagram.com/p/CqMskgpAGin

Has anyone took the time to count how many examples we have of the sloth bear standing up to a tiger and the tiger gives up? This would be an interesting number. We have one case, so far, of a sloth bear standing his ground and then killed by the tiger. Both adult males. We have one (unconfirmed) case where all evidence suggests that a large male tiger was killed by a large male sloth bear. *Undeniable fact; Full-grown tigers of either sex has a difficult time in a face-to-face confrontation with a full-grown bear half the tiger's own size.

Sloth bears are brave, durable, have large claws > facts. Sloth bears don't fear tigers and can fend of tigers twice their size > facts. Sloth bears can fend off tigers > facts. All of this really makes one question whatever big cats are really stronger than bears pfp > I don't think so. If a tiger shown to struggle against a sloth bear half it's size face to face it will struggle much more against the brown bear face to face.

I greatly support the tiger over the sloth bear given the tiger is way bigger but since sloth bears can actually still put up a fight clearly shows how vastly superior bears are to cats relatively speaking.

An impressive tiger kill. Tiger T-120 eating his large male sloth bear kill. This sloth bear, ambushed and killed, probably weighed nearly half as much as the big male tiger! "It was a bone chilling moment to witness the sight of a Tiger with a kill. Also listening to the sound when he was literally tearing apart the kill."
