Most bear enthusiasts are brown bear enthusiast. Polar bear enthusiast are rare in comparison.

True. Even though the polar bear is the biggest strongest predator that walks on land (even though its usually ice) and they perform amazing feats, a polar bear documentary can be tortuously boring. The bear is (basically) white and the scenery is white.
Brown bears live in a multitude of environments. However, most brown bear documentaries are centered on the big coastal brownies. How exciting is it watching a bear eat a fish. It's much more exciting watching a big cat kill an ungulate. This is why the vast majority of wild animal blog-site posters are big cat fans. I have yet to see an Ussuri brown bear doc.

My team leader at work from Russia told me that Russian do not share their wildlife with the western media to protect their weaknesses from USA and other superpowers in case a war breaks out.
