The polar bears on Foxe Basin has the heaviest average weights but I believe overall they weigh about 900 pounds. The average polar bear in Foxe Basin would be considered a large male polar bear overall.

Well yes, on the whole, the polar bear average is close to 900 lbs. But as we can see, some populations average more than 1000 lbs. My knowledge on polar bears is ( to say the least ) lacking. If someone would like to divide them up into separate sub-species ( as we did with black bears and brown bears ) then we can gather more than a single average. *Note: I'm not even sure if polar bears have separate subspecies or merely different populations? No subspecies brobear. All same species. Just different populations.

The lions and tigers gave the polar bear plenty of room. This article is similar to: Lions are good in operating in groups yet they refuse to engage a large grizzly. Since lions and tigers in captivity gave two large captive polar bears plenty of room, I might say that a male polar bear which weighs 1000 pounds is enough to displace a small pride of lions (males included). Polar bears in captivity seldom exceed 1000 pounds especially before animal rights act was induced.

Nice mate. Yeah, very similar. Sometimes the felines get scared of polar bears and brown bears.

I would like to say something one these captive fights.
Those who pitted animals against each other were complete jerkfaces and for those who were arrested, got what was coming to them. Pitted fights were some of the worst animal cruelty cases I've ever heard of. Nowadays shark finning takes that place.

Badger’s durability is sadly proven by badger baiting where the humans break the badger’s jaws before putting them with dogs 😡. The Romans also cause a lot of animals to become extinct due to pitting them in fights. Even today sloth bears and Asiatic black bears are used for bear baiting and polar bears should never be taken out of their natural environment in the first place. A lot of circuses also sadly treat their animals cruelly 😡. No polar bears or any other animals should be in circuses or zoos for the matter or fact: That is an example of cruelty. Back to topic, size does matter in the wild or anywhere as larger predators are able to displace multiple smaller predators even if they are outnumbered.

They want the polar bear to sing or something? They have his mouth closed anyways. Yeah that should he shut down.

Hope that bear attacks and kills them. That is what happens when a circus bear has enough of being tortured. Size does matter.

Yeah, that was awesome. And in my opinion, weight and size is already 50% of the fight. The other 50% are other factors and advantages.

AS AL G. BARNES, WHOSE CIRCUS SPECIALIZED IN WILD ANIMAL ACTS, STATED "WITHOUT QUESTION THE POLAR BEARS WERE THE MOST VICIOUS OF ALL BEARS. "IN A FIGHT, A LION OR A TIGER WOULD NOT STAND A CHANCE." A mismatch in favour of the polar bear. The polar bears fat and thick fur coat only adds to its protection.

Food for thought: Average mature male Arctodus simus - 1650 pounds ( 748.43 kg ). Average mature Foxe Basin polar bear - 1300 pounds ( 589.67 kg ). Difference between the two - 350 pounds ( 158.76 kg ).

brobear, let’s have a discussion. Since, there is info posted by Warsaw in the shaggygod forum which says that large male polar bears too heavy to be lifted up by helicopters have been estimated to be 800kgs, I believe the 2200 pound polar bear is only an estimate. May I know what you think? The heaviest male polar bear weighed seems to be 700kgs.

I don't find this difficult to believe at all. The heaviest wild Kodiak bear actually weighed tipped the scales above 1600 pounds. Also, those field biologists who work with bears will sometimes have reason to dart and sedate a bear. For the safety of both the bear and the biologists, the amount of drugs used must be carefully measured according to the actual weight of the bear. The biologists must therefore train themselves to estimate the weight of a bear, by site, very near to accurate.

OK; we have several different things going on here. Yes, the 2200 pound bear was ( according to reports ) actually weighed. The large male polar bears too heavy to be lifted up by helicopters have been estimated to be 800kgs. Those bears were out in the field - living bears. And so estimated. The 2200 pound bear was a carcass where heavy equipment was available to lift it onto some scales.
