/\ I thought the tiger was a national symbol for Pakistan. However, it is not impossible for one nation to have more than one national animal. Australia’s National animals are the kangaroo and emu.

Emu is probably Australia's national bird. In the USA, the bald eagle is our national bird while the bison is out national animal.

President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt tried to have our national animal, the bald eagle, switched with the grizzly. In his early years, Teddy Roosevelt was an active hunter, and had acquired a deep respect for the grizzly. He referred to the bald eagle as an "over-stuffed buzzard." __Today, the bald eagle is the national bird of America as well as the symbol of America. In more recent years, the bison was chosen as our national mammal. Also (fun fact) President T. Roosevelt wanted to change the spelling of grizzly to grisly.

MY TOP TEN favorite animals: 1 - Brown Bear and Cave Bear - These two bears are the tanks among bears. The most bearish of bears. I have always enjoyed watching movies of the old frontier with the grizzly as the near-unstoppable beast. But mostly, it's all about what looks good to me, at least in the beginning. After years of research, due to online animal face-off debates, the more I learned the more impressed I am about the brown bear. I view the cave bear as a mostly vegetarian brown bear on steroids. *I like all bear species. 2 - Gorilla - I grew-up in the 1950s when the gorilla was a popular monster of movies, tv, comic books, and other media. He was seen as a ferocious beast who could bend steel bars in his huge hands. But, at the same time there was something lovable about him. I was an adult when Dian Fossey exposed the real very peaceful gorilla. 3 - Tyrannosaurus rex - As a kid, a was dinosaur crazy. Of course, Tyrannosaurus rex, the 'King of the Dinosaurs' was my favorite. I did not see the short version of his name until well into my adult life. (T-rex) 4 - Woolly Mammoth - There is simply something about those big curved tusks, the woolly coat, and his compact build that makes him my favorite. 5 - Great Indian Rhinoceros - It has to be that hide that resembles a "suit of armor" attached by ribbits. So unique. 6 - Horse - especially a black stallion - I grew-up when western movies and tv shows dominated the media. Every kid had a favorite horse or at least a favorite color of horse. I was always attracted to the black stallion, such as Black Beauty, the Black Stallion, Zorro's horse Tornado, Fury (television), and Black Fury of the comic books.
7 - Lion and Tiger ( equally ) - Let's keep it honest. The big cats are individually the greatest land-based hunters on the planet. There is a wide variety of big and little cats on earth, but the lion and the tiger share the crown as the king of cats. 8 - Sperm Whale and Leviathan ( Livyatan ) - I have watched several movie versions of Moby Dick. I must confess I never read the novel. As a kid, I enjoyed reading about the sperm whale and the giant squid - always with colorful pictures. His extinct relative, Livyatan, is interesting. 9 - Dog - especially the boxer and the classic bulldog - From early childhood, there was a boxer dog in my life. There is just something about that pug-ugly face that tugs at my heart. There are meaner, bigger, more bad-ass breeds in the world. But there are none more dedicated to his family - especially the children. *In my life, I have owned 7 boxers (Penny, Sergeant, Lady Godiva, Dutches, Samson, Bonnie, and Hero). 10 - Wild Boar - Out in the woods of South Geogia and North Florida, I became familiar with the wild razorbacks. Some of those boars are quite impressive.
