Choose your top ten favorite animals of all time. Here are mine: 1 - Brown Bear and Cave Bear. 2 - Gorilla. 3 - Tyrannosaurus rex. 4 - Woolly Mammoth. 5 - Great Indian Rhinoceros. 6 - Horse - especially a black stallion. 7 - Lion and Tiger ( equally ). 8 - Sperm Whale and Leviathan ( Livyatan ). 9 - Dog - especially the boxer and the classic bulldog. 10 - Wild Boar. Not necessarily in correct order of liking. I did a little bit of editing here. I changed "Grizzly" to "Brown Bear and Cave Bear" as I like both species equally and not simply one subspecies. I changed "Black Stallion" to "Horse" and added "especially a black stallion". Along with the Sperm Whale I added, "Leviathan" - his extinct relative. I also added "Bulldog" along with the Boxer.

There are other animals I could add to my list, but I stopped at #10. The ibex and the sable antelope run a close second to the wild boar. Some posters are confused with my #7 pick - Lion and Tiger. Just because I vigorously and aggressively defend the brown bear against the big cats in the animal face-off debates does not mean that I dislike or disrespect the big cats. I consider the tiger as being the greatest single predator on Earth ( bears are poor hunters - polar bear exception ). Also, as can be seen on the topic, "Bears surviving in Africa", I openly admit that if lions and brown bears were to be flung into the same environment ( as in some locations in the distant past ), the lion would dominate at the top of the food chain. I have a deep respect and admiration for the big cats. But, going one-on-one against a brown bear, I am realistic.

In cat family, only lion is my favourite.
In canid family, dog, wolf, dingo and Aftican wild dog are my favourite.
I nearly like all birds and most bovids.
Bears are all my favourite.

Taking a close look at my top ten. Analyze. Is there a pattern? I might learn something about myself. 1 - Brown Bear and Cave Bear - These two bears are the tanks among bears. The most bearish of bears. 2 - Gorilla - He is the tank among living primates. I thought about adding Giganto, but not enough is really known about him to honestly like him. 3 - Tyrannosaurus rex - Among the theropod dinosaurs, he is the tank. ( IMO ) the King of the Dinosaurs. 4 - Woolly Mammoth - He was not the biggest of the Proboscidea, but there is something about that compact build of his that attracts me. Like the Neanderthal man, he is well suited for his cold environment. While neither the biggest nor the 'baddest' of the elephantine pachyderms, he was nevertheless, a tank. 5 - Great Indian Rhinoceros - Only the African white rhino can challenge him for the title of 'biggest living rhino'. But, the great one-horned rhino has a unique look that somehow won me over. And of course, being a rhino, he is a tank. 6 - Horse - especially a black stallion - The horse. A perfect blend of speed, grace, power, and strength. There's nothing else quite like a beautiful horse. 7 - Lion and Tiger ( equally ) - I can say the same about a big cat as I said about the horse. A big cat is a perfect blend of speed, grace, power, and strength. 8 - Sperm Whale and Leviathan ( Livyatan ) - of all the toothed whales, these two are the tanks. 9 - Dog - especially the boxer and the classic bulldog - From early childhood, there was a boxer dog in my life. There is just something about that pug-ugly face that tugs at my heart. There are meaner, bigger, more bad-ass breeds in the world. But there are none more dedicated to his family - especially the children. 10 - Wild Boar - Here again we have a compact powerhouse - a tank. *Most of my choices are tanks among the animals. I did not decide, when I made my list to choose 'tanks', but there they are.

Brobear i also like all animals in your list but i have little difference in number 7. I like lions but i donot like tigers. Sorry if someone does not like that what i am saying. But, i am saying truth with honesty instead of hiding it, i donot like tigers however i like lions.

Another reason that i like brown bears is that they are apex predators in their every respective habitat either big or small subspecie. From as russia (north) to atlas (south) and from Alaska (west) to Japan (east), every apex predator like wolf or tiger only submits to it. When a male brown bear because adult, so every predator becomes submissive to the king of the beasts nomatter that the predator is as small as wolvrine or as large as siberian tiger. The crown is only worn to the fully-grown brown bear.

Quote: The crown is only worn to the fully-grown brown bear. *One-on-one, against any other land-based predator, the brown bear is "Boss of the Woods" - polar bear can be exception; but he is in fact on the brown bear's family tree. But, numbers matter. The one face-off advantage that can over-ride brute strength is numbers. We have a topic here in 'Bears in General' - 'Bears surviving in Africa'. We all pretty-much agree that the lion would remain as the 'King of his Domain' in Africa.

I have read everyone’s top ten. It seems most of you have an interesting combination of dangerous herbivores and apex predators. Mine is the most colour oriented. King Kodiak’s fave animals are mainly dangerous giant herbivores and omnivorous.
Normal Guy seems to like fast running and agile animals.

Number #4 on my top 10 list WORLD OF PREHISTORIC CREATURES Like today’s existing elephants, the mammoths had a dental pattern adapted to grazing grass and tough vegetation. The mammoths first appeared in Africa 5 million years ago and from there spread to Eurasia and America. Adapting to cold climates, the mammoths flourished with the onset of continental glaciations 2.6 million years ago. The woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) was one of the last mammoth species to appear around 400,000 years-ago. It only became extinct 4000 years ago, which means woolly mammoths still existed at a time when the Pyramids were built in Egypt. They used their massive tusks to scrape away snow and get at the grasses below. Painting by Zdenek Burian, Life Before Man, 1995 edition.
