Culture Chinese culture and mythology has featured the giant pandas for thousands of years, either as Pixiu, a fierce and invincible creature as strong as a tiger, or as a more benign animal called Zouya. In battle during the Xizhou Dynasty, a flag featuring Zouya was used by armies to request a temporary truce. The panda was also regarded as a living manifestation of the opposing yin and yang forces which govern the universe thanks to its black and white coloration. Currently many Chinese people regard the giant panda as a symbol of national pride and a potent talisman. animals.mom.com/what-is-the-importance-of-giant-pandas-4936220.htmlLooks like the panda is highly revered in China as well.

"In the past, pandas were thought to be rare and noble creatures – the Empress Dowager Bo was buried with a panda skull in her vault. The grandson of Emperor Taizong of Tang is said to have given Japan two pandas and a sheet of panda skin as a sign of goodwill. Unlike many other animals in Ancient China, pandas were rarely thought to have medical uses. The few known uses include the Sichuan tribal peoples' use of panda urine to melt accidentally swallowed needles, and the use of panda pelts to control menstruation as described in the Qin dynasty encyclopedia Erya.[99] The creature named mo (貘) mentioned in some ancient books has been interpreted as giant panda.[99] The dictionary Shuowen Jiezi (Eastern Han Dynasty) says that the mo, from Shu (Sichuan), is bear-like, but yellow-and-black,[100] although the older Erya describes mo simply as a "white leopard".[101] The interpretation of the legendary fierce creature pixiu (貔貅) as referring to the giant panda is also common.[102] During the reign of the Yongle Emperor (early 15th century), his relative from Kaifeng sent him a captured zouyu (騶虞), and another zouyu was sighted in Shandong. Zouyu is a legendary "righteous" animal, which, similarly to a qilin, only appears during the rule of a benevolent and sincere monarch. It is said to be fierce as a tiger, but gentle and strictly vegetarian, and described in some books as a white tiger with black spots." www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_panda&ved=2ahUKEwjFzf3ozfrvAhUATRUIHfweDlwQFnoECDoQAg&usg=AOvVaw0C9dQZNxkk8mJCyTn7Znma1. Here in Pakistan, females are prohibited to see bears! Thats true, it is not only said in europe that bears rape woman but also this is present over here. Girls are said to avoid seeing bear dances in streets as upon seeing a girl, it will attack, lick the girl's face and feet, rape with her and then kill it. About 40 or 60 years ago, it is said that in a village an black bear performing a dance chased a 9 to 10 year old girl, did sex and then killed her. It is also believed that the reason that bears attack females is that bear detect that girls are weak and by recognizing this advantage, that quickly attack. However, its still a myth.

Many traditional cultures in the northern regions of Europe, Asia, and North America place a high importance on bears. They often are seen to have supernatural powers and in many places rituals developed centering on the hunting of bears. Often the spirit of the bear that is killed is considered to be a messenger sent to the spirit world on behalf of the community. The Greek goddess Artemis and the English hero King Arthur both take their names from the Indo-European word for bear (Ward 1995). Korean mythology identifies the bear as the ancestor and symbolic animal of the Korean people. The constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor represent bears. Bears have also long been hunted for their meat and fur. Their meat is dark and stringy, like a tough cut of beef. In Cantonese cuisine, bear paws are considered a delicacy. The peoples of China, Japan, and Korea use bears' body parts and secretions (notably their gallbladders and bile) as part of traditional Chinese medicine. Bear bile contains ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), which is believed by practitioners to reduce fever, protect the liver, remedy kidney aliments, improve eyesight, break down gallstones, and act as an anti-inflammatory. It is more common in bear bile than in other animals. Although there is an international ban on trade in bear parts, bear farms exist in China and Vietnam for extraction of bile. These farms are reported to involve a great deal of cruelty for the animals, with bears being kept in small cages and having a tube or metal inserted to capture bile from the gallbladder, or by allowing it to seep freely from an open wound created by pushing a hollow steel stick though the bear's abdomen. When they stop producing, bears have been left to starve to death or killed for their paws and gallbladders, both of which are considered delicacies. It is believed more than 12,000 bile bears are kept on farms, farmed for their bile, in China, Vietnam, and South Korea (Black 2007). Captive bears are also exhibited in zoos and circuses. In the past they were used in cruel sports in which they were forced to fight against dogs and other animals. Bears have often been used as totems and symbols. The German city of Berlin and the Swiss city of Bern are named after the bear and feature bears on their coats of arms. The brown bear is Finland's national animal. In the United States, the black bear is the state animal of Louisiana, New Mexico, and West Virginia; the grizzly bear is the state animal of both Montana and California. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Bear&ved=2ahUKEwir8v-19e_wAhXLTsAKHa57BB0QFjABegQICBAC&usg=AOvVaw3tk_eexrSzzToeS9CcsZvT

Consider that the oldest stone statue ever discovered is a depiction of a bear. Consider too that it is the bear, not the wolf, the lion, the eagle, nor even the mammoth, which holds a special place among the beasts of European cave paintings. BEAR - History of a Fallen King by Michel Pastoureau

Bear Meaning, Medicine & Magic.Bear symbolizes leadership, family, and lunar magic. Bears have great maternal instincts. Fiercely protecting their family with the ability to give tender nurturing attention to their young. Bears often retreat to caves, ‘the womb of Mother Earth’ to decompress, evolve, and mature. Emerging with the ability to trust their inner wisdom and sense of direction in life. Bears are extremely clever. They’ve been known to use rocks to free bait from hunting traps. Use your vast intelligence to maneuver any problem. You can outwit any trap. Bears have an incredible sense of smell. Polar bears can even smell prey under three feet of solid ice. How can you hone your sense of smell for your benefit? Smell is a powerful tool that goes beyond cooking. Smell has been known to trigger memories and aid people into deep meditations. Discover ways to participate more with your sense of smell. Bears care deeply about their family and are fierce protectors. Take a stand against any injustice you see to help protect those who can not protect themselves. When energy allows, extend this gift beyond your immediate family because all of humanity, animals, and plants are your family too. Most bears hibernate and need to eat a lot to build up sufficient fat reserves to survive the winter. Where in your life can you build up reserves? Possibly your savings account, sleep, workflow or vacation time? Staying on the ‘center path’ is an illusion. Learn to gracefully flow in and out of times/seasons of abundance and lack, trusting that it will cycle through again. Noticing the seasons of your life will help keep you prepared. Panda: Holds space for opposites without judgment. Spectacled Bear: Putting visions into action. Sun Bear: Exposing the rich sweet desires within your heart. Black Bear: It’s time to reclaim yourself from temptations. Asiatic Black Bear: “Moon Bear” honor your intuition. Grizzly/Brown Bear: Claim your wild side and embrace the clan mother. Polar Bear: Strength during adversity. www.tanyacasteel.com/project/bear/

Cultural depictions en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_brown_bear The historic distribution of bears and the impression the bear has made on people are reflected in the names of a number of localities (some notable examples include Berlin, Bern, Medvednica, Otepää and Ayu-Dag), as well as personal names—for example, Xiong, Bernard, Arthur, Ursula, Urs, Ursicinus, Orsolya, Björn, Nedved, Medvedev, and Otso. Bears of this subspecies appear very frequently in the fairy tales and fables of Europe, in particular tales collected by Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm. The European brown bear was once common in Germany and alpine lands like Northern Italy, Eastern France, and most of Switzerland, and thus appears in tales of various dialects of German. The bear is traditionally regarded as the symbol of Russian (military and political) might. It is also Finland's national animal; and in Croatia, a brown bear is depicted on the reverse of the Croatian 5 kuna coin, minted since 1993.
