A T-rex also? You sure?

Positive. A T-rex is about the size of a big bull African elephant, though built much differently - 8 to 10 tons for really large specimens. Consider that a good high-powered rifle will put a steel-jacket bullet through the block of a truck.

blog.nationalgeographic.org/2014/03/10/a-concise-history-of-tiger-hunting-in-india/ A Concise History of Tiger Hunting in India India’s tigers have been in the crosshairs for centuries, with elite safaris dating back to the early 16th century. They rose out of Mughal Emperor Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad Akbar’s passion for big game: He began a tradition of royal hunting, or shikar, that was carried on by Mughal rulers until the dynasty fell in 1857. Paintings from the period depict Mongol, Rajput, Turk and Afghan nobility hunting from elephant or horseback. These outings were considered exotic, heroic sport—and tigers were the ultimate trophies. Note: Consider that tigers have been hunted since the early 1500s. This suggests that tigers were hunted during the time that early American pioneers were hunting the grizzly and with similar weapons. Now, I understand that with a modern rifle a grizzly can be killed as easily as a tiger. However, the difference can be seen when the old-school, black powder, muzzle-loaders were used. Spine-chilling stories are told of the ferocious tiger. And, as a school boy growing up out in the country in North Carolina, I read a few books about tiger hunts. But, unlike the old tales of the grizzly, I never read any hint of a tiger being hard to kill and taking multiple rifle balls in vital areas of the body to kill him. It is my opinion that a grizzly can survive more damage than a lion or tiger.

And you are absolutely right. This old Account will tell you all. “A lion or tiger falls dead instantly when a bullet hits his heart or a vital part of his brain” “a grizzly may live longer while still fighting” a member of the Lewis and Clark party shot a grizzly 10 times, 4 through his lungs and 2 through his heart, and still lived 20 minutes and swam half a mile.

Nice. I have read everything concerning the grizzly recorded by Lewis and Clark. They actually believed that they might find Woolly Mammoths. But instead, the discovered a bear like nothing they had ever heard of. According to Doug Peacock, who has observed wildlife in both Montana and Russia, considers the American grizzly as the fiercest of bears.

I can agree with Doug sure. The grizzly bear (URSUS ARCTOS HORRIBILIS) is the most fierce and agressive of all bears. Thats your bear there.

Brobear....you might like this because you are a military man. We had this report since long time ago, although we lost the link unfortunally. The Major was a military man and a hunter also. I post this in this thread because of what he says about who is easier to hunt.
July 29th 1894 Major says tiger is no match for the Grizzly bear, and that the tiger is always defeated by buffalo herds. The Major goes on to say that the average tiger weight is 400lbs few reach 500lb, and that no tiger exceeds 600lbs. The tiger is a formidable animal, that never a fighter until compelled to be." He would be no match for a Rocky (mountain grizzly bear in a single combat, and is much more easily killed by a hunter. , There is probably, by the way, no quadra-pod on the tee of the globe that can carry more lead or make a more desperate fight than Mr. Grizzly, as he is a fighter under any and all circumstances. Buffalo herders drive their cattle through the worst tiger country In perfect safety, as the tiger will not attack a herd while on the move, under the care of men who shout occasionally. An old bull buffalo will often lead his' herd in an attack on a tiger, which almost always results in the defeat of the latter. The major gives the average weight of full grown tigers at 400 pounds, saying few reach 500, and none exceed 600..."

The movies give "The Jungle Book" all kinds of new endings. In the actual book, Mowgli tramples over Shere Khan with a herd of buffalo.

I would say a mother grizzly that can take a bullet and still continue to charge and would fight larger males to her death to protect her cubs is tenacious and the success rate of a bear in raising her cubs proves that.

Vtrilly bears are really powerful. At first I thought the word 'grizzly' was misspelled . President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to make the grizzly America's national emblem. He called the bald eagle an over-rated buzzard. He also wanted to change the spelling of the name to "grisly".

The bald eagle is way more passive than a golden eagle.

That would be so cool.

You are correct. This is why it would be great if we had the bear as our emblem as well.
