Two of the largest mammalian land-based predators to ever walk the Earth. If they had lived in the same land at the same time period, which of these mighty beasts would have been the dominant carnivore? They both lived in N. America, but at different times. IF they were tossed into the same environment together, and they fought over a carcass, who would feast on the carcass?

Finally a new comparison; this is certainly one of the best I've done so far with all of the important data included: 357 kg = 787 lbs / 193 kg = 425.5 lbs. 151 cm = 4 ft 11 in. / 131 cm = 4 ft 4 in. 118.3 cm = 3 ft 10.5 in / 95.2 cm = 3 ft 1.5 in. 244 cm = 8 ft / 197 cm = 6.5 ft. Note: Full-grown male brown bears (9+ years old) would be larger.

The coastal brownie looks so thin in that picture though. Why couldn't they use a coastal brown bear that lifts smh!1!1

Both bears might be presented during the Summer months when they are spending more time chasing the ladies rather than filling their bellies. Once Autumn arrives, then the bear's activities will change.

Made a new comparison; I did realize that those two are animals of roughly comparable size in almost all metrics, so why not visualize them? The SH figure is not definite but I guess two good sized males of both would stand 85cm tall and are basically equal in weight. When I look at this, it seems as much of a 50/50 to me as it can get but I'd reckon the black bear would still be the better grappler when you take a closer look on how his limbs are shaped, especially the thickness around the thighs and butt.
I love these comparison pictures by 'Taker, and this one is great. Of course, these two would never meet in the wild. But, if they did, the Sumatran tiger would never ambush a bear his own size and he would never ever ever fight one head-on.

Thats a very good comparison up here. The syrian bear in the looks very fat, strong and obivously a dominant male.

/\ More accurately, it should be ‘polar bear is 3 times the height of the child’. A 10 foot polar bear outweighs the child more than 3 times. Other than that, it is a great comparison .

Very nice kaijufan1789. And to think, this black bear is more than any normal man would want to wrestle with.

It was a very busy month for me but here's my latest size comparison which shows the biggest attained sizes by the largest carnivores of my country, italy. Enjoy! Marsican brown bear - Ursus arctos marsicanus. Alpine brown bear - Ursus arctos arctos.
