The title of the comparison says what's needed to know; Ursus deningeri, Deninger’s cave bear, was a medium-sized cave bear probably ancestral to the classic cave bear. I really like this showing of animals all of which lived in the same general location during the same time period.

Shoulder Heights are 100cm for the Bengal tiger and 121cm for the Kodiak bear.
Just too much bear for any big cat.

This gives the Coastal brown bear a shoulder height of 4.5 feet ( 137.16 cm ). Different sources give different measurements. I was thinking these are average; maybe not. I do know that the max-sized Kodiaks are just under 5 feet high ( 152.40 cm ). Your thoughts? theundertaker45 says, brobear, Currently there are 3 samples upon which we could draw a potential estimation for the average shoulder height of coastal grizzlies/Kodiak bears. We have 193kg Yellowstone grizzlies standing at 95cm, 264kg Ussuri brown bears standing at 115cm and 268kg Eurasian brown bears standing at 110cm; so if we take the average relationship of shoulder height to body weight out of those three an average coastal grizzly/Kodiak bear weighing about 350-360kg (5y+) would be roughly 121cm tall on all fours. The 4ft 5in you suggested would already mean that it would be a huge bear of around 500kg; so maybe this height would be appropriate for a fully grown male of those. For your interest, there is a sample of Alaskan Peninsula brown bears (average weight of 357kg) being measured for HB-length and shoulder height; unfortunately over the curves and with extended arms. The results were 244cm over the curves and 133cm tall; 244cm over the curves would equate to roughly 204cm in a straight line and the 133cm of shoulder height with extended paws can then be reasonably reduced to around 121cm

I think this is one comparison everyone here will like. 😀 If the Neanderthals had made their way into N. America, they would not have liked Arctodus simus.

I feel certain, that in the distant past, these two knew each other.

The Florida short-faced bear: 331 pounds to 661 pounds. Florida cave bear ( also called Florida short-faced bear or Florida spectacled bear ) compared with his still-living relative, the Andean bear. The Andean bear and his N. American brother.

When we look at average-sized individuals or maximum-sized individuals, either way the polar bear dwarfs the tiger.

Nice comparison . What's the average weight of coastal grizzlies ? Don't inland and coastal grizzlies belong to the same subspecies ? Notice the girth of the limbs.

Even for a Kodiak bear, a bull bison would be a tough opponent.

Ursus maritimus tyrannus; named as a polar bear, but more likely a brown bear.

Full on front comparison between a tiger and a grizzly, using the same individuals used in the other visuals comparisons. Girth is a game-changer.
