People had quite unique visitors in their garden in Sweden.
Translation: "A wolf attacked a deer in the garden of Swedish Tobias Ågren and Rebecca Holmsted. Now the wolf has been killed by the police. Video: Tobias Ågren and Rebecca Holmsted via Expressen"

Quote: "Now the wolf has been killed by the police." *Why? It happened in the middle of the small city. I haven´t checked all the details, but if some wolf has lost it´s fear towards people and starts to stay in city/village too long time and not leaving as they do normally, they are shot. Not too many such cases though, it´s pretty rare and first they are tried to make go away with non-lethal ways. One example in other way. I mentioned in other posting how one Swedish man was running in the woods and he ran in the middle of mother bear and cubs. Mother bear bit that man twice and then left the place. Because it happened in the forest, police commented, that bear acted as bears do if surprised like that and they didn´t do anything else. Bear and her cubs are today most likely all alive, if not dead by natural causes. If that would have happened in the city, they would have been shot without a doubt.

This is interesting video from Finland. Authentic footage from camera attached to hunting dog seeking moose which meet two wolves. Breed is Jämthund which is also known as Swedish Elkhound, material is from Finland. This video has every now and then some text explaining what happens and text is also in English there. Dog meets wolves first at 0:52, after some time they run together and wolves can be seen there with him until 14:36 they disappear for good. After that some footage what happens when dog finds moose.
Interesting footage, imo, and shows that meeting a predator in wild can go in many ways. Hunters lose dogs as killed by wolves in the forests every now and then, but it doesn´t happen always. It´s estimated that usually things go peacefully.

I stumbled to one fascinating story and some great photos too showing extraordinary relationship with Finnish wildlife photographer Antti Leinonen and wolverines. He met during 2004-2005 a young male wolverine, which he named "Täplis" because he had two unique spots on his chest. He met it first time 14th Spetember 2004, when Täplis was a teenager wolverine, born earlier in the spring of same year. They met when Leinonen was walking in the forest and wolverine was walking from opposite direction, when it noticed Leinonen, it ran behind a rock. Leinonen threw towards him some small bits of tallow (fat). It took a moment, but then Täplis took and ate one, and extraordinary friendship started. Leinonen had photographed and filmed mother of Täplis earlier from hidden cabin, he had named mother as "Valkokulma". Year 2005 was for Leinonen most memorable of his career as photographer. Even though Täplis was already over a year old and his mother had new cubs, he came back again and again. First his mother tried to make it go away, but after some time she gave up and let Täplis to stay and look after his younger siblings. Even though Leinonen had been away some time, their relationship continued from the same, where it had ended in autumn 2004. Täplis let Leinonen come close to him and also followed Leinonen when Leinonen was walking in the forest and he himself came close to Leinonen. Täplis had a very strong-willed younger brother, which Leinonen named as "Hemmo". Hemmo took soon place of the leader among siblings. Here Hemmo and Täplis, 2005 and photo by Antti Leinonen. Leinonen saw these two wolverines last time 1st December 2005, when they were playing and wrestling on the ice of the lake. Their mother he saw last time 23rd October 2006, she was already in poor condition and most likely died soon after, she was an old wolverine already. He visited same place also summer 2007, but he didn´t saw any of his "friends" anymore, only in his dreams. What is quite astonishing is, that after over 10 years, Leinonen had again will to take photos of the wolverines. And then 12th March 2019 he met a wolverine (a few nights before his camera with motion detector had been turned to point different direction, to which he had left it and only possibility was wolverine). When in the evening Leinonen was putting some bits of fat to lure wolverine in front of camera, he saw nearby a wolverine, which was every now and then peeking at him behind a snow bench. Leinonen thought, that it would go away as wolverines do usually when human spots it. But no, this wolverine didn´t. It stayed there around 15 minutes before it started to run away across ice cover of the lake and went towards opposite shore. There it continued to go away until suddenly it changed its mind and turned around and started to run towards Leinonen and his cottage. Soon it was in the yard. Leinonen threw to him more bits of fat (tallow, I wonder what is right word) and wolverine ate with no worries, it didn´t mind even when Leinone called to his wife and told her what was happening and took some photos too. When it came dark, Leinonen decided to go to his other cottage, where he slept. Wolverine was calm even when he started engine of his snowmobile. Long story short, Leinonen thought, that it was Täplis. Later when he compared photos, he understood, that it was actually Hemmo. Hemmo visited and met with Leinonen 40 times and last time he met Leinonen 4th December 2019. When he visited, he spent time with Leinonen. He was very curious, carried tools, investigated camera stand etc. It played with carpet on the porch and so on. If he felt, that not enough activities from Leinonen it started to open boxes etc. and all kind of little tease to Leinonen. One interesting thing was fifth visit, 1st of April, that time he took food from hand of Leinonen. It did it very carefully and gently, it turned it´s head a bit askew and took food very carefully with his lips. Leinonen got feeling, that wolverine didn´t want to scare him, when it took the food and did it very very gently. Hemmo was already also an old wolverine during 2019 and Leinonen thinks that he died soon after their last visit. Either to old age or killed in some fight maybe with younger wolverine. He is very grateful from this "Gift from life" experience as he describes it. 2005 he disliked Hemmo, because it was like a little maniac, 2019 it was quite different thing.... Some photos more. Leinonen with Hemmo Hemmo and wife of Leinonen Some more photos with Hemmo alone or with Antti Leinonen: Old wolverine, still good teeth: Hemmo, July 2005 over nest hole. Hemmo and Antti Leinonen, one more time Photos and story here, in Finnish and only if you are a subscriber of that newspaper. www.hs.fi/kuukausiliite/art-2000006585209.htmlHemmo was born, lived and died as wild wolverine in vast forests of eastern Finland, near Kuhmo. He managed to live a lot longer than wolverines do usually, exceptional story and exceptional wolverine. 14 years old wolverine is something similar as 100 years old man, just in way better shape physically.

Here is more about Antti Leinonen: anttileinonen.net/His book "Ahman kintereillä" (difficult to translate, something like with/near/following wolverine) won book of the year award from WWF Finland in 2012. Site is in Finnish, but there can be found photos of bears too.

Reply #44-#46 - Great pictures and great story about the fiendish killer of the Northwoods. Yeah, quite unique. Actual article is way longer with more of it how things went and what kind of things happened. Leinonen was very sad first, when he understood, that it wasn´t Täplis as he thought and whom he learnt to like so much during 2004-2005. But in the end he enjoyed so much of his time with Hemmo too and got memories for the rest of his life to cherish. It was also interesting how mother wolverine allowed his former cub to stay with her new litter. And how it seemed to be so, that after approximately 14 years Hemmo still remembered him.

I put here an article from an Finnish magazine concerning same case as just before. This can be translated with website translator to English. It is still clumsy translation, google translator is poor when it translates webpage from Finnish. When in translated text is written wolf, it means wolverine. For some unknown reason translator program translates Finnish word ahma sometimes as wolverine and sometimes as wolf, even though it should be always wolverine. In one part is mentione "vulture nest" but it should be wolverine nest. Also word ahmanpesä translates in one part of English text as werewolf nest, even though again it should be wolverine nest. Then this sentence: "Leinonen even tried to carve the porch doormat with the wolverine who often fiddled with it." It should be: "Leinonen even tried to flutter the porch doormat with the wolverine...." Hemmo is also sometimes Hem in the text and Täplis is in some occasion Spots (Täplä=spot) Here is article, if something doesn´t make sense or feels odd, just ask and I check what original text really means. seura.fi/ilmiot/tarinat/luontokuvaaja-antti-leinonen-ja-hemmo-ahma-ystavystyivat/Here a picture to show, what Leinonen tried to do with wolverine, when he talk about fluttering doormat When Leinonen pulled, wolverine came forward and vice versa, they just didn´t find the rhythm. Pity that no video of that tryout, they have had to have some fun time. Leinonen mentions, that he learned to see when wolverine is in the good mood and occasionally he was sure, that Hemmo kind of smiled when doing things or relaxing with Leinonen. Trying this might have been one of those occasions... Just imagine smaller mat and wolverine with a man there trying to make wolverine to understand what it should do. His wife has had without a doubt some fun watching what all his husband and wolverine did while spending time together... two crazy old buddies and their things...

Reply #44-#46 - Great pictures and great story about the fiendish killer of the Northwoods. I have to say, that I wouldn´t call wolverine as fiendish so much. I see real nature of wolverine as something what is very different than what x-men comics and sensationalists have tried to make it look like. It´s one predator among others, doing the best it can to survive. One part for it´s bad reputation is, that it acts like mustelids do, it kills occasionally more animals, than it eats to the storage so to speak. And because it´s capable to kill reindeer, especially in the winter time, it faces often pure hate from reindeer owners. A good platform to generate exaggerated stories of a bloodlust monster, which should be killed on sight. While, when observing real wolverine, it´s a normal wild animal. Smallish and because of it cautious. Still also smart and when seeing opportunity, has courage to bluff and test it´s limits. Sometimes to the point of overconfidence and time to time it pays heavy price for it, not always. First stories exaggerating wolverines are older than many even know, I think. Swedish historian Olaus Magnus (1490-1557) wrote two years before he died following: He wrote, that when it has opportunity, wolverine eats so much, that " its body swells drum-like" Then he continued: " Once it finds a narrow spot between the trees, it squeezes into it, causing it to soon be forcefully emptied. After slimming in this way, it returns to the carcass and fills its stomach to the extreme again, squeezes again into the same gap as before, returns to the carcass again, and so on until this is completely eaten." And after that, Magnus told that wolverine is ready to search more to eat. He also mention how people believed, that if wearing wolverine fur, a person can eat as much as he wants with no limits. And if sleeping under blanket made of wolverine fur, a person suffers from terrible hunger It´s easy to understand how its reputation is so exaggerated, when seeing this kind of text from a person, who people during his lifetime looked up as an educated person. I believe, that wolverine has suffered a lot of its reputation, it´s easy to justify killing an animal, which people consider to be kind of bloodlusted "mass murderer" of livestock etc. And it´s sad, because when learning more about wolverines, they are nothing like that. Smart, tenacious, curious, fascinating are the words, which come to my mind nowadays, when I think of wolverine. Not "demon" or "badass" or anything like that, which suits better to comic book characters, than wild animals. As that one interview which I shared before showed, even today there are some people thinking, that wolverines should be feared when walking in the woods. I can´t think of any other people to thank about it than sensationalists writing total crap while making good money with imaginary stories. How many wolverines have died for fear/hate caused by such crap... I believe that quite many. Bears and wolves at least have actually killed people, so fear towards them is easier to understand to some point, same time wolverines have done nothing and still some people fear them more. Logic in this is absurd. But same time good proof of the power of rumors and myths.

Yeah, but a good opportunity to write a bit more about wolverine They are in so many places in bad position and close to be endangered. While species like bears and wolves get most attention, wolverines are often forgotten. And they deserve some attention too. As they are.
