Summary:

A nuclear bomb had exploded killing 90% of the human population on earth. These which survived developed the ability to communicate with animals. In other words, they are able to have at least three animal friends.


A nuclear explosion killed the great majority of the population on earth. These that survive develop the ability to connect with three animal friends.



The rich and wealthy now live on a heavily guarded train moves due to a blue engine named Thomas which runs on unlimited energy fuel.



The train travels around the globe. Nobody may go in or out.

In the meantime, a male polar bear became the last of his kind on the arctic.

Prologue:



A highly tech company has brought back many of the extinct animals back to life. Many of them were distributed in Africa, South America, North America, and all other places which looks after wildlife. The reintroduction was successful.



Among the animals brought back to life included the smilodon populators, brontornis, Amphicyon ingens, cave bears, cave lions, and many other places. The distribution of animals over the years has been successful. Overtime, the poachers and trophy hunters in the world have also been arrested for killing off animals illegally.



In spite of the successful reintroduction of extinct wildlife, the billionaires who are controlling the company had an agenda. That agenda was no other than eradicating the majority of earth's population.



An 'accident' was carefully planned.

Meanwhile in the arctic, before the 'accident' happened, summer has arrived, the ice pack is melting, slowly breaking into ice bergs. Some of them were larger than others. While some of them are large enough for even a helicopter to land on, most of the icebergs remain under water.



On top of one of the ice bergs, a huge yellowish white creature stretches his body yawning under the sun. His body size was similar to Stan, the 1760 pound male polar bear, the heaviest scientifically verified yellowish white bear.



Exposing his white canines and bluish black tongue with a yawn, this yellowish white creature open his dark brown eyes and stood up on all four looking around briefly before jumping into the sea.



Feeling a little hungry, not eating for a week, spotting a grey sea creature less than 1.5 metres long, swimming in the sea, he decided to have a go.



Attempting to catch the grey sea creature, known as the ringed seal, he nearly had a meal.



Being more at home in the water, the ringed seal swam out of the way in time, easily outmaneuvering the yellowish white creature, narrowly avoiding death.



Chasing his victim in the green sea for a while, the yellowish white creature finally abandoned the chase, swimming back to the iceberg and leaping onto it, showing surprising agility despite his huge bulk, shaking his body, drying his fur before laying down and closing his eyes.



Knowing there was no way to catch his intended victim, the yellowish white creature leapt back onto the ice berg and rested under the sun. For the rest of the journey, he remained asleep on top of the ice not wanting to expand unnecessary energy before reaching land.



Moving closer and closer to dry land on the iceberg, he yellowish white creature smelt the smell of his usual food.



As the iceberg drew closer to land, spotting a huge carcass of a bow head whale which had been washed up on the shore, his mouth watered. Now eight years old, he knew he could dominate the carcass as he in now the largest of his kind. When he was six years old, unlike most young males his age, he was able to take own older males due to his exceptionally large body size and heavy weight.



The iceberg was finally only a few hundred metres away from land, instead of spotting his kind, he was met with a rude shock.



Instead of spotting his kin on the whale carcass and on land, only brown furry creatures existed in their place.



Some of these brown furry creatures were eating the whale carcass, others were playing, others mating, a mother was chasing off a larger male to protect her cubs.



Watching these brown furry creatures intently, he did nothing. The vibe given out by these brown furry creatures was not a welcoming one.



Initially hesitant to jump off his resting place and swim to dry land, watching as these brown creatures, some which are only one third his weight, yet more aggressive at him, growling to discourage him from swimming onto land.



his happened whenever he attempted to leap of the ice into the water. Trembling nervously, never seeing such aggressive creatures before, he rested on the ice for a few more hours.



Hunger finally got the better of him, the yellowish white creature which is no other than a male polar bear leapt off the ice.



Surprise that the polar bear which had leapt off the iceberg, swimming towards them, most of the brown furry creatures which are called the barren ground grizzlies backed away, the only one standing his ground is a large but older brown creature.



Upon reaching land, a fight broke out between the yellowish white creature and his brown furry opponent known as the barren ground grizzly, the polar bear initiating the confrontation.



Charging, his smaller brown opponent, the male polar bear easily killed the male barren ground grizzly bear by overpowering it in a grappling match before biting its throat.



His smaller but more aggressive opponent fought back violently and the hardest that could be done. However, the male polar bear broke the neck of his much smaller opponent by shaking his head and jaws. all this while holding down the grizzly which is kicking and clawing away as his life depended on it.



The life of the largest barren ground grizzly slowly ebb away.



Seeing his opponent dead, the male polar bear took a bite of flesh and a mouthful of fur from his dead opponent's body, dominating the whale carcass, showing all around him who is boss.



For the rest his time on land, the polar bear killed many more of his smaller brown opponents and mated with many of their females.



This happened after a nuclear explosion somewhere on earth causing most of the polar bears to be wiped out. He is now the last of his kind.



Not far away, a huge blue vehicle with thousands of carriages behind it passes by with speed twice as fast as that of a cheetah. That vehicle is no other than a high tech bullet train. Written on the engine was the word 'Thomas'.



Inside the blue train, the rich inhabit, safe from the change it atmosphere from a nuclear explosion which affected the vast majority of earth’s population.



Most of the people living outside the train have been killed. These still alive have develop the ability to connect with animals.

Chapter 1: The life of a young man.



The alarm clock rings. A relatively tall young man with blond hair and green eyes yawned. Slowly opening his eyes, he stretched his arms and opened his mouth to yawn.



"Good morning my sunshine, Ben". A beautiful woman of Colombian heritage with tanned skin, black hair, and a beautiful smile gave him a cutesy pout. Standing by his side, wearing a beautiful blue dress several inches above her knee and a bright blue strapless tip, she placed her hand on his right shoulder."It is about time. I have just prepared your breakfast".



"Good morning Blueberry. You are dressed all blue today. You should dye your hair blue too". Ben's very own words caused him to burst out laughing, resulting in a hard hit landing on his right shoulder in the form of a petite but powerful fist.



"Get dress! You have to go to work! Now!" Blueberry, the nickname which Ben gave his girlfriend's face in a split second had changed from the cutesy affectionate flirt to one giving him an angry stare. "Get going!" She drag the shirtless Ben who was only in his boxer shorts off the bed and from under his blanket by his right arm using both her hands. He did not resist.



"No need to be rough". Ben immediately put on work attire before heading to the only table in his carriage, finishing the breakfast which consist of cereals and milk. "Have you ever thought what life would be like outside the train ?" He turned to his girlfriend who was putting on her makeup looking in the mirror after finishing his breakfast. Ben turned to look outside the middle window of his carriage and for a split second saw a woman with a cheetah, a leopard, and a jaguar by her side.



" No. I am pretty content here. We are living a life of luxury. This is something these living outside do not experience. That is if they have survived the nuclear bomb explosion. We are lucky to be alive". Blueberry continued putting on her makeup, not even looking at Ben, making it look like she did not care about his words.



Seeing his girlfriend looking so self absorbed, Ben sighed to himself while looking out the window. It had been two years since he had enjoyed the outside world except when looking outside the windows or by travelling to work or to his girlfriend's carriage by the transportation tubes on his ceiling.



Thinking about his time in the outside world made him sigh. He missed all the times he was able to play basketball, jog, and most of all camping and bird watching.



Ben's train of thought was interrupted when Blueberry who had finished putting on her make up, abruptly pushed him on the left arm. "Don't forget our party tonight. Many of our old friends will be there and you better be there". She spoke with a smirk on her face while looking into his green eyes. "I hope you have not forgotten".



"No I have not forgotten". Ben lied as he actually had not been thinking of the party which Blueberry had inform him about three weeks ago. This is because he had been looking for a way out of the train just to enjoy the fresh air but it was heavily guarded. Anyone who attempts to escape the train will be shot.



Only the guards are allowed to exit the carriages and even then they are forced to dress in a suit of midnight-blue power armor with silver highlights and a helmet and visor that covers their eyes and nose. Ben had seen them from time to time whenever he used one of his transportation tubes, he thought they were in a 'walking prison', something he never shared with his disinterested girlfriend, whom he was losing his feelings for day by day.



Blueberry pressed a button with the label 'Number 2', just a few metres away from Ben's television which was several metres from his bed. "Take me to my workplace: The beauty salon". Immediately, the transportation tube came down from the ceiling. Walking into the tube, she called out once more to Ben. "Don't forget the party". Half way, she turned around, rushed to him, giving Ben a strong hung on the torso before letting go, running to the transportation tube. She disappeared from sight in a flash.



"Not even a proper goodbye". Ben walked towards the button with the label 'Number 1', just on the right side of button Number 2. "Take me to my workplace: The Thomas Telemarketing Corporation".



Immediately, a transportation tube came down from the ceiling. Walking into it, Ben was pleased to be able to have a glimpse of the outside world once more, even if it is only for a short while.



Once inside the transportation tube, it began to move. Moving at the speed of a cheetah running while in the tube, it didn't take long for Ben to get to work. Yet he managed to catch a glimpse of some of the birds flying in the air, especially a wandering albatross which was flying south to look for a mate. He also saw a middle age man walking with a cave bear, woolly mammoth, and woolly rhino.



Ben actually envied the man who was dressed in the skin of a furry animal which he didn't know what it was. He wished he could trade places with him and actually regretted the day in which he climbed up the train. "I might have died if I did not climb up this pathetic train but it is better to risk it than to be stuck here and never be allowed to taste the fresh air ever again. This is making me sick as I miss the animals".



"If only there was a way to get pass these guards. They are the only ones standing in my way". He clearly could not contain his frustration any longer, forgetting that the transportation tube had taken him to his work place which all his workmates had already arrived. Ben had arrived exactly just on time to work.

Chapter 2: Life at work.



Arriving to work in carriage 3 from his home in carriage 100, Ben exited the transportation tube. Taking his place on his desk, he put on his ear phones beginning his work fifteen minutes ahead of schedule.



Sitting on his desk, making cold calls to customers, some which were not very friendly, using the blue phone provided in his work place, his job was to make as many sales as possible. "Good morning, sir. I am 'Telemarketer 100' calling on behalf of Thomas phone lines to offer new deals".



Telemarketer 100 was Ben's nick name given by his boss to protect his identity. Many people get annoyed with telemarketers. Once he called the same person who recognized his voice. "If I ever see you in public, you are DEAD!"



"You never know when you might meet your customers in real life especially in parties. We are among the last of our kind on earth". These were the words from his boss on his first day at work. "Not all customers are friendly".



Working in this job for three years, Ben had learn to take the good and the bad. Over 30% of telemarketers would quit their job in the first two weeks, making this a job with a high turnover rate. He had however managed to retain this job being a relatively good communicator.



Sometimes Ben would long for the fun times he had in college and school which is no longer a luxury as keeping a job is a great responsibility to pay his bills. Sometimes, he wondered how his girlfriend whom he met at his college graduation party enjoyed her job without getting bored.



"Greetings Ben. How was your weekend? You don't seem like yourself today. You usually greet us before starting your work." One of his colleague, a young Asian man , sitting on a different desk, less than an arms length away from him tap him on the shoulder.



He was just as tall as him with black hair and dark brown eyes.



"It is boring as usual. I really wish to get out of this life cycle".



"Don't bother trying. You will only get shot by the guards. Our train is heavily guarded you know". His colleague clearly trying to discourage him from attempting an escape. "A few have attempted to do so and were shot dead by the guards in blue. These dress like Armsmaster from Worm".



Knowing that his colleague does not share his passion for adventure and is content to stay lock up in the train for the rest of his life, Ben just went back to work clearly not wanting to continue the conversation. "What a dullard". Ben mumbled to himself, actually not realizing that a customer on the other end of the line had just pick up the phone.



"I heard that you DUMBO! That is the reason why I hate telemarketers". The voice on the other end sounded like it belonged to an angry middle age lady.



"I am sorry Mrs Brass". Recovering from his shock after being silent for at least thirty seconds. "I was just annoyed at my work mate. I will not happen again."



"Next time I will call you boss and make sure you get fired! Telemarketer 100!" Ben heard a loud slam on the other end of the line, his potential customer and client actually recognized his voice.



Ben hardly had time to process what happened when his boss, who was walking around to see how the telemarketers were doing, tap him on the shoulder. "Come to my office, Ben. We need to have a talk."



Following his boss who was a beautiful woman in her thirties, slightly shorter than him with olive complexion and hazel eyes with long black hair. She was wearing a grey knee length skirt, a grey business jacket, and a white blouse. Many of Ben's work mates were attracted to her but he was not one of them.



The moment they entered her office, she politely invited Ben to take a sit before sitting on her own seat. "What is wrong, Ben? You don't seem to be doing too well lately. In fact the number of sales you have brought into the company seems to have deteriorated over this past few months. I know you have potential and use to do much better for the company. That is why I have kept you in spite of your poor performance but if you keep this up, you will soon be fired."



"I am sorry, Mis Brown. I will try to do better from now on."



"You had better and for the last time, something which I have told you plenty of times, you may just call me, Michelle."



"Yes, Michelle".



"On second thought. Have a weeks off. You will be paid you salary for the week by tonight. My advice, take this one week to think carefully weather you want to be a part of this company or not. I already had two complains from potential clients who have recognized your voice. "



Walking out the the office after thanking his boss, the green eyed young man took the transportation tube back to his carriage. Please to be off from work, he turned on the tv to watch the news.



In that news, another man was shot dead for attempting to escape the train. That man happened to be one of his old work mate who was fired after his first two weeks. "It looks like I need to plan my escape well."



Feeling tired from not having enough sleep due to sleeping late at night, thanks to his girlfriend, who is a midnight owl and a chatter box, Ben fell asleep.



While, sleeping, he had a dream that he escaped the train with the help of his girlfriend's ex, who was not on good terms with him. This is because, he had been flirting with Blueberry way before she broke up with her ex.



Waking up a few hours later, he realized that it is thirty minutes before the party starts.

Chapter 3: The escape.

With only thirty minutes to the party, Ben entered his bathroom taking a quick bath. He did not even have to turn on the tap as water came down from the shower from the ceiling just by pressing the teal button. The water automatically came out as warm, therefore, he did not need to adjust the temperature either.

Clearly enjoying the luxuries from highly advance technology in the 31st century, something even these in the 21st century never got to experience.

Staying in the shower for ten minutes, he finally came out and got dress in some formal clothing which was purple and green.

Despite not wanting to stand out, his girlfriend had told him to wear something colorful for the night on his text message on phone.

Although reluctant to go to the party, he decided to do so just to please Blueberry before making his escape later on in the night.

Pressing button 'Number 3' on the left of the button 'Number 2', Ben ordered it to take him to carriage 50 where the party was hosted. The party had already started, the disco lights were flashing rainbow, and his girlfriend who was a social butterfly was among a group of friends, clearly the life of the party.

Looking at his watch, Ben knew he was 20 minutes late. Hoping to avoid his girlfriend, he attempted to avoid her, get a drink, and leave the party without anyone knowing. However, her eyes met his. Expecting to receive a kick between the legs or a punch in a gut, he froze still.

"Hi Ben! It is good to see you here!" Instead of receiving 'punishment', Blueberry ran towards him giving the green eyed man a hug.

"Hi! Blueberry". Ben returned the hug, giving her a kiss on the lips. "Sorry I am late".

"It is alright. Go ahead and have some fun". Blueberry ran up to her friends, leaving Ben on his own.

For the next three hours, Ben stood on his own, drinking some water and sprite from time to time. Not interested in socializing, he looked at the clock from time to time, anxious to get back to his carriage.

Ben spotted his girlfriend flirting with her ex boyfriend, touching him affectionately, the same way she did to him when they were madly in love.

Feeling no place at the party, he left without informing Blueberry, relief that she might not miss him after his departure. Taking one last look at her, he turned around before calling the transport tube to take him back to his carriage.

Upon arriving back to his carriage, he packed up some of his stuff ready to attempt an escape.

Before he could do so, Blueberry whom had gotten back with her ex arrived. "Why didn't you tell me you wanted to escape. I could have got my boyfriend to help you".

Sofia chided while shaking her head and smirking at the same time. "I knew there is no more chemistry between us. You should have been honest from the start. Anyway, my boyfriend who is one of the train guards will create a diversion and you can make you escape. Now let's get going".

"Why would you help me?"

"Because I just want you to be happy". She grinned before punching Ben in the chest. "Besides, you stand almost zero chance of escaping if we did not arrive to help you".

Thanking Blueberry's ex whom she had gotten back with, he followed his now ex girlfriend into transport tube number 1 which took them all the way to the back of the train.

Upon arriving at their destination in the final carriage, Ben receive some capsules from Blueberry. "Get off quickly before the guards arrive. Don't worry about me as my boyfriend will cover for us".

"Where are the guards ?"

"My boyfriend has ordered them to keep watch at the head engine. There are special transport tubes where only the guards can use".

Sharing one more hug and a kiss, he ran out of the back door in the last carriage, jumping off the train for good while his ex returned to her boyfriend who was waiting for her.

Jumping off the train, he turned around watching the train quickly leave him behind in the dark. Using his mobile phone as a flash light, Ben reached into his backpack, taking out one of the capsules given to him by his ex.

Throwing the capsule on the ground, a bubble tent appeared on the ground. Not wanting anyone from the train to contact him, taking out a hammer, he destroyed his mobile phone but not before taking out a flash light to see where he was going.

Taking a few gasp of the fresh air, probably still effected by nuclear explosion, which he had missed, Ben entered the bubble tent which was surprisingly large enough to fit more than two people.

Feeling hungry, he took out a cup of instant noodles. Realizing, he forgot to bring along his kettle of hot water, Ben had no choice but to eat without hot water.

Drinking some ice cream soda to quench his thirst, he took out a book from his backpack which had the topic 'Bird Watching'. "I wonder how many birds will still be alive after the nuclear explosion. I can't wait for tomorrow morning."

Ben could hear wolves howling from outside the tent. Hyenas were also 'laughing' while the owls were hooting. From the sound of the hyenas, he realize that they were laughing hyenas.

Hoping they do not hunt him down, he wished that he was in a cave. Upon realizing the animals might have some human owners or friends, Ben breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that he might meet some people, until he realizing that there are probably animals running loose without any human friend. He can only hope that his life be spared for the night.

Feeling sleepy and tired from almost a whole day and night of planning his escape, giving him no time have a proper rest let alone work properly, causing him to be pulled up by his boss, hours before his escape.

Taking out a pillow from his backpack and putting on a comfortable pillow. Taking out a pillow cover with pictures of birds of snowy and great horned owls, locking talons. "I hope to see these two owls interacting if they are still alive".

Having done talking to himself, Ben closed his eyes before falling asleep surprisingly fast, dreaming about owls and foxes. In one of the scenes, he spotted a snowy owl was confronting an arctic fox. The confrontation ended up in a draw as a large male polar bear interrupted the fight and drove them away.

Chapter 4: Kidnapped.



Waking up by noises, Ben slowly open his eyes. The sunlight glaring on his face, forcing him to cover his eyes with his right hand indicated the night was over and a new day had begun.



Looking outside his transparent bubble tent, he saw a cheetahs, leopards, and jaguars surrounding his tent sniffing around. Surprise that they did not attack each other, Ben observed them while looking puzzled and confused. He could tell the three spotted cats apart not just because of their built but because of their eye color.



At one point, he looked a jaguar in its greenish yellow eyes. That jaguar was a big 330 pound individual.



Upon noticing him starting into its eyes, the jaguar roared and intimidated Ben causing his to pee in his pants. His scream startled a big male leopard which was resting on the roof of his bubble tent, causing it to leap off. How it got up there remained a mystery.



"It looks like someone has finally woken up". A feminine voice similar to his ex girlfriend spoke up. "I am the leader of my tribe".



Approaching the tent was a woman who possesses the exact physical appearance as Blueberry, except for the fact she was dressed like an Amazonian woman which he read about in the DC comics. She was surrounded by other women who dressed in a similar fashion.



"Come out!" She used her spear tapping its blunt side against the bubble tent, her body language clearly showing she means business. "Or I will feed you to the cats!"



Not complying means she will break into the bubble tent and she easily could.



Taking his backpack with his right hand and strapping around his shoulders, slowly walking towards the bubble tent's entrance, Ben slowly walked outside, not wanting the strange woman to order the animals to rip into the tent.



Once he came out of his bubble tent, the woman slowly approached him. Without saying a word, she used a fairly long piece of rope in her hands and tied up Ben wrists together before dragging him along with her.



Despite being almost as petite as Blueberry, the leader of the Amazonian tribe possessed amazing strength. She was clearly stronger than the terrified Ben.



The journey was long and hot. The sun was shinning down on him and he was sweating and the smell of urine causing his body to stink surprisingly did not bother the women who had taken him captive.



Along the way, he spotted cactus plants, and elf owls nesting in some of them. Due to his knowledge in birds, Ben knew these holes in the cactus plants were made by woodpeckers. He even spotted a roadrunner killing a rattlesnake.



"This must be former Texas". He thought to himself.



"Where are you taking me ?" Ben asked midway in the journey, anxious to know where he was heading.



"Tonight, you will be part of our ritual. My name is Lolita". She turned around to look at him. Ben looked at her from head to toe, finding her to be attractive.



"Don't you dare look at me that way". She walked a step closer to him, kicking him between the legs. Despite not being the hardest kick, it definitely send a sharp pain through his whole body, causing him to cringe in pain.



Looking at Ben compassionately, she allowed him time to crouch down and rest for a while.



"Let's get going!" Feeling a strong pull on the rope tied around his wrists. "We cannot be late for my ritual".



The journey ended after an unknown among of time. The sun had gone down by then.



Making fire using stones and sticks the old fashion way, Lolita guided him through the jungle, leading him to a tribe which were expecting them.



Looking around, he noticed there was no man or boy in the tribe, only girls and women. "Where are the boys and men ?"



"It is none of your business". Lolita who was still holding the rope tied around his wrists did not even bother turning around to look at him.



"What ritual is going to be held?" Ben nervously spoke, unsure of his fate. Deep down inside, he felt something was not right.



Many women looked upon him intently, showing they have clearly never seen a man in their life.



Lolita said nothing but continued leading him into an isolated area, away from the rest of the tribe. That isolated area was near the river. The three big cats which accompanied them, clearly belonging to the female tribe leader led the way.



The big male jaguar attacked a female green anaconda which put up a fierce fight. With help from the leopard under Lolita's orders, the snake was killed.



"My jaguar can kill this snake by himself. I just wanted the fight to end sooner". Lolita expression on her face made her look snobby.



Turning around to look at Ben, Lolita smirked briefly before finally informing him the reason she brought him to the isolated area. "We do not associate with men except to increase our population".



"What happens to the boys then ?" Ben attempted to get an answer out of Lolita only to be told it was none of his business.



Walking towards a nervous Ben, placing her hands on his chest, pushing him down into the bushes, the ritual began.



An hour later, the ritual finally ended, Lolita who was snuggling up to him feel asleep in his arms.



Slowly getting up, reaching for his backpack, taking care not to wake up the female tribe leader, Ben slowly got moved away from her.



Looking around to ensure there was no jaguar, he got dressed in a hurry before taking out a capsule from his pocket.



Looking for an open area far from the village, Ben finally found one. Throwing the capsule on the ground, it became a green motorcycle.



Quickly getting up the motorcycle, he started it and was surprise that it could move twice as fast as a cheetah. Escaping the jungle and the Amazonian woman tribe, he manage to escape with his life, at least he believed he escaped death.
