My favourite genres in films and stories consist mainly of sci fi, action, triller, and a bit of romance as well as fantasy.
What types of films and stories do you guys like?

I can't pinpoint anything in particular. I find most movies of today as being "too dark", perhaps too serious. Example: The Adventures of Robin Hood - 1938 - with Errol Flynn is still and always will be the best Robin Hood movie ever. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - 1991 - with Kevin Costner was too dark and too serious. ( IMO ).

Reply 1. I guess you are more into the light hearted films. It depends on the subject matter. First of all, I think its wrong to completely change someone else's creations. The example I used, Robin Hood was written as an adventure for children. It was neither dark nor bloody. The same can be said the the Three Musketeers or Zorro. Now, you get into something like Frankenstein, yes its dark. But if the movie-makers make it too gruesome; I'm not interested. Another thing I see on many of today's movies; scenes that are so dark ( I'm talking actual dark - no light ) you are sitting there basically watching a black screen with sound. Very irritating. There have been a few good movies made from the old tales. The Mask of Zorro - 1998 and The Legend of Zorro - 2005, with Antonio Banderas was ( IMO ) as good as the older versions.

Don't make fun of me now but I like love stories. Clint Eastwood - The Bridges of Madison County. Robert Redford - The Horse Whisperer.

Robert Redford's character in the Horse Whisperer is an inspiration based on a real person "Buck Brannaman" You could call him a real life horse whisperer, but he would probably laugh at you if you called him that. He was actually an advisor on the the movie set. I've got a DVD documentary on Buck and his story is very interesting especially growing up with his brother with a father who was an abusive alcoholic. One of the lines in the movie where Redford makes a comment when asked if he deals horses with problems. He states "to be honest I mainly deal with Horses with people problems" I think that was one of Bucks sayings. Most if not all issues with horses and you could say dogs as well, are created by humans. www.theguardian.com/film/2011/jun/26/true-story-horse-whisperer-buck-brannaman#:~:text=Buck%20tells%20the%20real%2Dlife,and%20a%20young%20Scarlett%20Johansson. An except from the article: This kind of thinking is so true.
