Huge male grizzly bears that are too heavy to climb trees will fight rather than flee. The source above confirms that.

QUOTE FROM A GRIZZLY HUNTER:
"GRIZZLIES UNDER TWO YEARS OLD FIGHT ONLY FOR LIBERTY. UP TO SIX YEARS OLD, THEY FIGHT TO PROTECT THEIR YOUNG. WHEN THEY GET OLDER, THEY FIGHT TO DESTROY AN ENEMY"

MORE SPOTTED A GRIZZLY. MOORE SHOT THE ANIMAL IN THE BACK. HE THOUGHT THAT HE HAD BROKEN ITS SPINE. WHEN MOORE WENT AROUND TO CHECK HIS KILL, THE GRIZZLY WAS WAITING FOR HIM. THE SKIN HAD BEEN RIPPED AWAY FROM OVER HALF HIS FACE, AND HIS JAW HAD BEEN TORN LOOSE. HIS NECK AND AND CHEST HAD BEEN RAKED WITH CLAWS, EXPOSING HIS HEART. THE GRIZZLY LAID DEAD, ITS INTESTINES DRAPED OVER THE FIELD OF BATTLE. MOORE'S KNIFE WAS ON THE GROUND. MOORE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND SURVIVED. HE WAS HORRIBLY DISFIGURED.

THIS IS A REPORT ON THE PROBLEMS OF CAPTIVE BEAR CUBS AT PEALE'S MUSEUM.
WHEN FIRST RECEIVED, THEY ARE QUITE SMALL. AS THEY INCREASE IN SIZE THEY BECAME EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS, SEIZING AND TEARING TO PIECES EVERY ANIMAL THEY COULD GET A HOLD OF.

Are you getting that book brobear? That one is really not for me, lol. Today i will start reading the book at my reply #80. No, but evidently this tiger killed a large number of people. "No Beast so Fierce" because he is killing people rather than wild game... taking the easy-to-catch-prey. Probably a handicapped tiger. Either that or he simply got used to having an easy meal. But no; money is tight. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champawat_Tiger The Champawat Tiger was a Bengal tigress responsible for an estimated 436 deaths in Nepal and the Kumaon area of India, during the last years of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th century. Her attacks have been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest number of fatalities from a tiger. She was shot in 1907 by Jim Corbett.

Did you see who killed her? Yep; She was shot in 1907 by Jim Corbett. Exactly, the same guy who said one of my favorite phrases in this debate:
"This, to a Himalayan bear who fears nothing, and who will, as i have seen on several occasions, drive a tiger away from its kill"

I read this book - seems like a lifetime ago. I thought maybe you did. So how was it?Very interesting; very well written. This was the big "game changer" book; when the popular movie monster transformed into an animal as beloved by the world as the giant panda. Dian Fossey was not the first person to go in and study the gorilla. But she proved than some jobs are better suited for a woman. Men were mostly looking for two things; how strong are they and how do they deal with predators. And so, the monster image persisted. - Great book; worthy of your bookshelf.
