We'll.... Different strokes for different folks. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I like war movies and not many done on the great war and I think this one caught the horror and the conditions of fighting in the trenches to a T. My grandfather faught in that war and was in those trenches you see in that movie. So I guess seeing that in the big screen has a little sentimental value for me.

The cinemas have been closed down for a while. I hope they reopen soon.

I finally got to see this one. This was almost forgotten in Hollywood; over-shadowed by WW2 movies. My grandfather in the first and my dad in the second. I feel like the realism was captured pretty well in this one.

Thing is i was hoping to see typical war scenes and fighting, but it was the story of a particular soldier trying to get a letter across. Still pretty good though.

Battle scenes are fine but you have to have some kind of a storyline in there that makes the movie interesting, otherwise it's nothing but battle scenes. I think what was unique about this film other then fewer battle scenes was more storyline focused. The soldier given the warning memo was the brother of the one of the soldiers that was going to be ambushed if the memo was not delivered in time. I'm sure the commanding officer figured if anybody was going to get through to give the message it would be the brother of one of the soldiers in the unit that would have been decimated. Still my #1 all time favorite and IMO best war picture of all time was Saving Private Ryan. Battle scenes and storyline. The first 30 minutes are jaw dropping.

Brobear, you were in Vietnam. whether you saw combat action or not what in your opinion is the most realistic Vietnam movie that you've seen.
There's some good ones out there a platoon for one, full metal jacket etc..
Apocalypse now comes to mind also and someone said that that the scenes in that movie were very realistic

That's where I was stationed. Incoming every day without fail. Only left the area once and was caught in an ambush. But "Full Metal Jacket" is for me too real to enjoy. Not the 'Nam part, but the Paris Island part. Marine boot camp was my worst nightmare. I would wake-up in 'Nam from nightmares about Paris Island and I would be relieved that I was in 'Nam. Even after the ambush; I was riding "shotgun" in the first truck. Just me and the driver. On a very narrow dirt road snaking through the jungle, all Hell breaks loose. All the guys in back of the truck evacuated. Canvas will not stop a bullet. There were only three truck; we were taking supplies to Kasan. Only our truck made it through, soon with no glass and the truck's body looking like a pin-cushion. By the grace of God the truck miraculously made it to Kasan. My driver had some cuts from the disintegrated windshield. I was not harmed. We went back; with a bunch of marines that John Wayne would be proud of. We returned and those marines kicked some butt. Not to mention "Puff the Magic Dragon" did his stuff. For several years after, riding "shotgun" in a truck gave me an eerie feeling; but the nightmares of Paris Island lasted longer.

My "Big Brother's" two favorite movies were "Thunder Road" and "Iwo Jima". I like such a huge variety that I cannot choose a favorite. I grew-up loving Tarzan movies, Universal monster movies, other monster movies, ( I was especially fond of old-school gorillas and clunker-robots ( like Robby ). Westerns, Combat, Sword-and-Sandals, and Swashbucklers. As a kid, I loved pirates.

I even remember in the movie Green Berets starring John Wayne they had a scene in there using Puff the Magic Dragon, pretty awesome.
