Not including herbivores, I will say polar bear, equal to larger male brown bear, and exceptionally large male black bear.

Well, I have a few options considering the tiger weighs 500lbs.
Average Coastal/East Siberian/Eurasian/Kamchatka/Kodiak/Ussuri brown or grizzly bear. Average Polar Bear.
Maximum Sized Coastal/East Siberian/Eurasian/Interior/Kamchatka/Kodiak/Ussuri brown or grizzly bear. Maximum Sized Polar Bear. Maximum Sized American black bear. Maximum Sized African lion.

Reply 5. When you mention a brown bear can win 10/10, I believe it depends on the subspecies you are talking about right?

Reply 5. When you mention a brown bear can win 10/10, I believe it depends on the subspecies you are talking about right? In our section, Bears in General, in our topic Tiger-Brown Bear Size Comparison, the Eurasian brown bear is depicted as the typical brown bear, considering all brown bear subspecies. *Also note, there are only a small handful of brown bear subspecies smaller than the inland grizzly, and they are all very rare. Add to this, this topic is mostly just personal opinions. *Just up-dated Reply #5.

/\ Also how much out of ten do you believe every brown bear subspecies can defeat a 500 pound tiger? Beginning with the inland grizzly bear.

I'm not going through all of the subspecies, but ( IMO ) 19 out of 20 wins go to the inland grizzly and every brown bear relative bigger than he is. That one out of ten for the tiger is for that occasional quirk or "freak occurrence" such as when the leopard killed the tiger ( or was it a lion? ).

Reply 5. When you mention a brown bear can win 10/10, I believe it depends on the subspecies you are talking about right? Actually, I said 19 out of 20. Here is a list of those that can... 1- North American brown bear ( grizzly ) - Ursus arctos horribilis. 2- Grolar bear - most common natural hybrid bear - brown bear/polar bear hybrid - sometimes called Prizzly bear. 3- Sitka brown bear - ursus arctos sitkensis. 4- East Siberian brown bear - Ursus arctos collaris. 5- Mongolian brown bear - Ursus arctos jeniseensis. 6- Eurasian brown bear - Ursus arctos arctos. 7- Hokkaido brown bear - Ursus arctos yesoensis. 8- Ussuri brown bear - Amur brown bear - ( black grizzly ) - Ursus arctos lasiotus. 9- Kamchatka brown bear - Ursus arctos beringianus. 10- Alaskan Peninsula Brown Bear - Ursus arctos ( horribilis / gyas ). 11- Kodiak bear - Ursus arctos middendorffi.

Tiger wins 2 or 3 out of 10 against Gaur / Yak / Cape Buffalo / Water Buffalo / Bison / maybe some other wild bovine / Spanish Fighting Bull in a face-off. Remember that an ambush attack can have totally different results. All of these face-to-face confrontations are about typical specimens of each species. I believe that a 450 pound black bear ( Asiatic or American ) would defeat a 450 pound tiger in about 4 out of 10 face-offs - possibly even a 50/50, as no tiger has ever been known to fight a bear his own size or better face-to-face. In fact, not even by ambush. In such a face-off, the tiger likely has the edge in weapons while the bear has greater strength, durability, and stamina.

I stated 500-pound tiger here, which is a large but not the max-size for a tiger. We have a similar topic in "Bears in General" - 'Who Can Defeat a 1,000 pound brown bear'?

One forum has the opic, "Tigress vs Moose". Could you imagine even a big 300-pound tigress going head-to-head against a full-antlered bull moose? Even a big male tiger, at best, might win ( IMO ) 2 or possibly 3 out of 10 such confrontations. There is a tremendous difference between an ambush attack and a face-off.

The video above, which is quite accurate, states that grizzly bears have been known to decapitate moose with a paw-strike. While this is really hard to accept, I have read this also from other sources. There is no doubts that a brown bear has an extremely powerful paw-strike. A bear is far more muscular than an equal-sized lion or tiger, and that shoulder hump provides an extra measure of upper-body strength to the brown bear, making him the strongest of living bears. At equal size (HBL) the bear's girth gives him more weight. The brown bear also has a greater range of motion in his arms than a cat, which only adds to his greater paw-strike. So, is it true that a large male brown bear can decapitate an adult moose with a single paw-strike? I will not give a definite no, but neither will I say yes until I read this from a reputable source, especially in a biologists report. Realistically, it does not seem possible considering not only bones, but muscle tissue, the hide, etc.
