Just for fun, name as many land-based animals ( Vertebrates-not bugs, virus, etc ) that you believe can defeat a 1,000 pound grizzly in a face-to-face confrontation. Note: also list those that are a good 50-50 antagonist.

Ok but any land animal that can defeat a 1000 bear, only the ones that would win 50% or more correct?

I have made a mistake though sorry. I take the polar bear back. I was not thinking correctly. A 1400 lb + kodiak bear would win at least 70% of the time, especially in Kodiak island or a captive battle. In the artic yes, might be 50%. With polar bears the habitat is very important.

Yeah but force in numbers dont apply here Brobear, its one vs one. 20 wolves might be able to kill a 1000 bear too, has not happened though.

Yeah but force in numbers dont apply here Brobear, its one vs one. 20 wolves might be able to kill a 1000 bear too, has not happened though. Actually, I neglected to state one-on-one. But that's OK as in the real world wild beasts don't play by a set of rules. But, a wolf pack is not going to challenge a huge 1400-pound boar grizzly regardless of their numbers. Spotted hyenas might if there are enough of them. They are known to gather in overwhelming numbers of from 40 to 80 animals. In Africa, the grizzly would have to adapt to these new challenges. I also added the Sumatran rhinoceros.

Even an exceptionally big grizzly would not hunt pachyderms, not even the smallest of them, the Sumatran rhinoceros. Too risky. As for the large wild bovines, a grizzly would hunt most calves and perhaps the occasional cow. A grizzly might try to steal a giraffe calf. Grizzlies hunt moose calves. As for walrus and elephant seal, a grizzly would probably select calves only. We must remember that a bear likes to take as little risk as possible and always looks for an easy meal. The song "Bare Necessities" fits the bear's life-style perfectly. But, when an easy meal is not to be found, grizzlies have been known to attack full-grown moose and bison. He will take chances when necessary.

Yeah we pretty much agree here on that list, i mean its obvious anyways. I have 2 points to make though:
#1....”We must remember that a bear likes to take as little risk as possible and always looks for an easy meal.”
yeah definatly, but this applies to absolutely every predator in the world.
#2....go ask this same question to a tiger fan and lets see his answer. (the list will be...zero).

Just a question guy, I know that we support bears over canines, felines, pantherines etc at parity, however, what animals do you guys beleive will beat bears at parity? These animals will defeat the largest modern day bears in 50% or more-face to face battles at weight parity. Some dont have parity, so i will just name all the animals that can defeat a 1500 lb bear in general, elephants-100% rhinos-100% hippos-100% walrus-80% bisons 50% gaur 50% water buffalos 50% Saltwater croc (on water) 80% Giraffe 80%.

No size-parity here, but very nice ( familiar ) list. Only two I disagree with: ( 1 ) Walrus: ( IMO ) on dry land, Grizzly 75% - in deep water, walrus 100%. ( 2 ) Huge bull crocodile on dry land, crocodile 75% ( wild guess ) - in deep water, crocodile 100%. In truth, I have serious doubts that a grizzly would ever challenge a big crocodile.
