SIZE; pretty-much a size/weight parity contest. A.africanum was an omnivore who leaned most towards meat. He has the strongest laws of any bear ever. This cave bear was an omnivore who leaned more towards a veggie diet. The cave bear is bulkier. The A. africanum appears faster.

I am not surprise if the short faced bears are actually faster because of their slimmer builds.

I am not surprise if the short faced bears are actually faster because of their slimmer builds. My guess would be the Agriotherium would be much faster and more agile. Grappling ability unknown. Hunter or scavenger unknown. For certain a more powerful bite; and for certain the cave bear has a substantial strength advantage.

/\In addition, the cave bear has greater grappling ability too. Regarding jaw strength, I am not too sure. The short faced bear might have stronger jaws but the cave bear has a larger head and a stronger skull.

Considering all we have seen, its very timid nature, an american black bear would never even come near a tiger in the wild the same way that an Asiatic black bear displaced a big male tiger from its kill. That is just my opinion. An opinion I agree with. I agree with most of what is said. The exceptionally large male American black bears at 600 pounds and above might be able to do so.

Its really impossible to say just how brave a huge specimen, from 600 to 800 pounds might be. Would a huge American black bear attempt to displace a lion or a tiger from its kill? When I consider that a smaller black bear will displace a cougar... possibly.

Here would be an interesting face-off; Himalayan black bear vs Queen Charlotte black bear.

Nice one brobear. The largest subspecie of black bear in the world vs the most fearless and aggressive subspecie of black bear in the world. We already know that the one with a weight advantage will win more often than not. But at a weight parity fight, the Himalayan black bear takes it at least 7/10 times.

I believe that it was in the book, "Bear-o-logy" that I read that the Asiatic black bear has the greatest bipedal ability. Great book by the way.

Great. That would be another advantage for the Himalayan black bear.

This would be a fight worth watching. This primitive African bear is believed to have been a hypercarnivore. A full-time predator with bone-crushing jaws. However, this biggest of the cave bears was an omnivore of massive muscular proportions. Bigger heavier bones than a like-sized Kodiak bear and even more muscular. Its like pure brute strength vs a ravenous savage assassin.

We know that the size difference between Ingressus and the classic cave bear were minimal.

I believe that this could end up a very savage fight which might end up going either way. Africanum was ( probably ) a hyper carnivore who would likely have much more fighting and killing experience. Unlike fighting with a cave lion, the cave bear would be up against an adversary who rivals his own brute-strength while also ( probably ) being quicker and more agile. Unlike a cave lion, this bear would be using both teeth and claws during a fight. I still believe that the cave bear will have some strength advantage and greater durability.

I am favouring the agriotherium africanum here, not only did it have a much stronger bite it also had competition wit the amphimachairodus kabir in Sahabi.

I just came across this thread and decided to add a poll.
In my opinion the Ussuri brown bear would definitely have an edge over an interior grizzly bear; it's simply the bigger bear and I personally don't see any significant advantages of the interior grizzly to overcome the weight disadvantage, they are both brown bears and not animals of different species.
So I'd favour the Ussuri brown bear ~70-75% taking two individuals of average weight into account.
