Very often we see face-off topics with male this vs female that. We have a few examples right here at the Domain: "Debate: Male Amur Tiger vs Female Ussuri Brown Bear" and "Debate: Amur tiger vs polar bear sow." This is because both of these face-off topics with male vs male have been announced as a mismatch; bear the winner. Anytime we see a male vs female face-off topic, we know then that the species with the female "player" is the dominant species. Exception to the rule is the female dominated hyena.

In addition to the female spotted hyena, female birds of prey are generally larger and more powerfully built than their male counterparts. The same goes for sharks, snakes, and many invertebrates. A female green anaconda can be five times heavier than her male counterpart.

In bear and bigcats, males are considerably larger than females. Bears show more sexually differentiation. Normally, male bears are larger than male big cats like black bear and cougar, leopard and sloth bear, panda and snow leopard, lion and grizzly etc. While female bears tend to be measure almost as much as the males of the big cats like the amur she-bear and male tiger are at weight parity. Due to this size difference, "Most face off topics between male big cats and male bears becomes mismatch while female bear and male big cat becomes debatable."
In hyenas, females are used in face-off topics as they are larger than males. The size difference between males and females in canines have a little difference. However, big cat and bear versus topic are more popular.

Also regarding birds of prey, the more agile they are, the greater the size difference between male and female. The powerful owl of Australia is the only owl in which the male is larger.

"Male vs Female" is not about male vs female of same species. Please read opening post. "Tiger vs Wild Boar sow", "Ussuri brown bear vs polar bear sow", or "Male cougar vs female jaguar"... these are all meaningless face-off topics. However, OldGreenGrolar, your posts about birds are interesting and informative.

Lion or Tiger vs brown bear should not even be debated; a total mismatch in favor of the bear.

Female brown bear vs male lion or tiger is the only way for the big cat to win. When there is male brown bear so the match is over as tge bear would win easily.

I would reword that as, "...the only way for the big cat to stand any chance to win."

Brobear, i would add your saying in my collection of good phrases by knowledgeable people that "a big cat needs a conciderable weight to defeat a bear." đ

Putting this in prospective. Let's say that a 17 year old boy from North Side High School meets a 17 year old girl from South Side High School, out behind Farmer Dan's barn to have a fist fight. Maybe 12 or more kids show-up to watch the big fight. Seriously, what can the boy prove by beating-up a girl? Nothing. But, if the girl beats-up the boy, that school has something to brag about. Its a win/win for South Side.

However, there are no species of humans so a boy would beat a girl of similar age or size 10 out of 10.

But, when I see a topic like, "Leopard v Jaguaress" and many similar, I see these topics as just plain idiotic. Such face-offs prove absolutely nothing. They're pointless. I'm like - "WT freaking H!"

I have never seen a case of any female big cat killing a larger male bear while there are some female bear defeating or killing a male tiger like,
1. Female skinny sloth bear defeated a larger male bengal tiger
2. Female polar bear, "Velox" killed two fully grown African male lions.
3. Small female brown bear,"Roise" kills a larger sumataran tiger named prince.
A tigress that killed a 170 kg male grizzly was a subadut male who was alreadily dieing due to severe injury by train. Thats not such a great thing. I can also go can kill bruce lee who is in hospital and near to death.

1. Female skinny sloth bear defeated a larger male bengal tiger. *The sloth bear managed to successfully defend herself until the tiger decided to move on. No victory here to speak of. 2. Female polar bear, "Velox" killed two fully grown African male lions. *We deleted all of those old newspaper stories for a good reason. Maybe there is some truth to this story. Maybe true, maybe exaggerated, maybe a fantasy. 3. Small female brown bear,"Roise" kills a larger sumataran tiger named prince. *Again; maybe this actually happened.
