@shadow It's been specified by me and UT45 that this male was scale to ~160cm under crouched posture, so it would be more like 165cms at the shoulders which would be a little larger than it should. I've personally measured it at ~155cm which would be an accurate value for a male this size under crouched stance, and it was roughly 2.8-2.9m which compeltely corresponds with the properly measured figures of ~285cms in a straight line. You'd be blowing a polar bear ridiculously out of proportion if you tried making a model bulky enough to weigh that much at ~135cms; if you take a look at the 2 other prehistoric bears I've done on this thread, both weighing in at a ton whilst standing 170cms at the shoulders for the cave bear and 200cms for the arctodus it become a pretty clear that those dimensions are needed for those sizes. Well, I found finally a comparable photo with polar bear sitting and looking forward and then looking up to the sky. And now I could make some calculations and I have to take back now, that 3 meters would be necessarily too much for exceptional polar bear. If assuming, that Kotzebue bear was/is while standing on hind legs and looking forward 339 cm tall, it would mean (based on it, that from several photos can be concluded, that hind legs are approximately 20% of total height and then comes from rump to head length) that hind legs are 69 cm and then rump to top of the head 270 cm. Thing is, that when bear looks upwards, it adds approximately 14% to body length and then rump to tip of the nose length would be 308 cm. These size matters are always interesting. Mathematics usually gives good hints about possibilities. I am in hurry now and I will show some things later. Now I have to go for some time.

shaggygod.proboards.com/thread/645/ursus-maritimus-north-american-profile By grrraaahhh - opening post. Size & Weight. Male polar bears weigh about 375-600 kilograms (825-1320 pounds) while occasional individuals may reach 800 kilograms (1760 lb). They sometimes exceed 250 centimeters (10 feet) in length, measured in a straight line from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail, although most male polar bears are a bit shorter. They are roughly twice the size and weight of adult females, which weigh 200 to 350 kilograms (440-750 lb) and achieve an adult body length of about 190-220 centimeters (up to about 7 ft). Females first breed at four to six years of age and most often give birth to two cubs in snow dens on land (some cubs are born in dens on the sea ice). Cubs stay with their mothers for two and a half years before weaning which means that unless cubs die prematurely, females do not breed more frequently than every three years. Both sexes live twenty to twenty-five years and sometimes to over 30 years. Their primary prey is ringed seals and, to a lesser degree, bearded seals. I guess that "250 centimeters (10 feet)" is some kind of typo. 10 feet is ~305 cm (1 ft=30,48 cm). I have looked a bit photos of Kotzebue polar bear. It´s pity that there seems to be only three photos, at least if looking at those which are easy to find and none is too good to reasonable size estimation. One is with forced perspective, one with some kid and in one a man is in quite good position, but not fully visible. It´s obvious that it´s tall. Then again, while I have serious doubts of some bears, what comes to height on hind legs, this Kotzebue bear can be just as tall as it has been claimed to be. This based to measuring it in different ways in comparison with man standing in front of it. Results variate from 315-340 cm, when I have tried to get as good estimations as possible and being objective. To compare with for instance Bart the Bear and when knowing that Doug Seus is 180 cm tall, I don´t think, that Bart was really 293 cm tall (9 ft 7,5 inch), when standing on hind legs. Different photos and some are quite good ones, give results in between 239-259 cm, no matter what. So Bart has been 8-8,5 feet tall. I guess, that Bart has been measured in some other way or then height is when it has been lying on ground in really straight position head on the ground too and nose forward. In normal standing position like in this photo it simply isn´t tall enough to be claimed to be 293 cm. In this photo Bart 2 looks to be 259 cm based on measuring Doug and Bart 2 in photo. In this photo "original Bart" 251 cm This photo 239-245 cm depending how I measured it. Interesting thing is, that Bart 2 (I just checked) was told to have been exactly 259 cm tall on hind legs.

1002 kilograms is equal to 2,209.03 pounds which one particular polar bear was said to have weighed. / 1211 kilograms is equal to 2,669.80 pounds which, likewise, would have to be a record-breaking weight for Arctodus simus.

Reply 1779.The polar bear looks more heavily built with thicker forearms but the Arctodus is taller and longer and has weight advantage.

Reply #1780 - Palaeoloxodon namadicus was the largest of 11 known Palaeoloxodon subspecies, surpassing even the gigantic rhinoceros, Paraceratherium in size, although some might argue this. A fantastic beast.

That gigantic rhino does not even have a horn and has the longest neck out of all the rhino family.

Next comparison will be between the African bush elephant and the Asian elephant; I'll always include three short paragraphs of information below every comparison from now on.
