Simply a place to save weight data results for easy access. Heavyweight record per species of bear:
1- American black bear: 880 pounds. 2- Asiatic black bear: 451.95 pounds. 3- Sloth bear: 423.29 pounds. 4- Brown bear: 1656 pounds. 5- Polar bear: 1785 pounds. 6- Sun bear: 7- Andean bear: 8- Giant panda: 396.83 pounds. ________________________________________________ In any such study, the measurements and weights are taken by a small handful of specimens. Even 20 specimens is just a handful. To get an absolutely accurate average weight, every single ( example ) 9+ year old Ussuri brown bear would have to be drugged and weighed, counted and averaged - an absolutely impossible task. Therefore, we know that any number we get is not a number to be carved in stone. Clearly, we can rightfully narrow each number down to the nearest 10 pounds with no wrong doing. Be alert for new studies and possible number changes. Average fully-grown East Siberian brown bear ( 5+ years old ) - 509 pounds.
Average fully-grown male Ussuri brown bear ( 9 years+ ) - 631.4 pounds. Average fully-grown male Ussuri brown bear ( 10 years+) - 657 pounds. Average fully-grown female Ussuri brown bear (7 years+) - 415 pounds.
Average mature male Yellowstone grizzly (5 years+) - 425.5 pounds. Average mature female Yellowstone grizzly (5 years+) - 295.4 pounds. Average fully grown male Yellowstone grizzly (9 years+) - 470 pounds. Average fully grown female Yellowstone grizzly (7 years+) - 304.08 pounds.
Average mature male Alaska Peninsula brown bear (5.5 years+) - 787.1 pounds. Average mature female Alaska Peninsula brown bear (5 years+) - 498.2 pounds. Average fully grown male Alaska Peninsula brown bear (9 years+) - 857.6 pounds.
Average mature male polar bear (6 years+) - 1075 pounds. Average mature female polar bear (5 years+) - 485 pounds. Average mature male Foxe Basin polar bear (5 years+) - 1300 pounds.
Average mature male Kodiak bear (5 years+) - 769 pounds. Average mature female Kodiak bear (5 years+) - 407.7 pounds. Average fully grown male Kodiak bear (9 years+) - from 882 to 992 pounds. Average fully grown female Kodiak bear (7 years+) - 446.5 pounds.
Average mature male Eurasian brown bear (5 years+) - 590 pounds.
Average mature male Himalayan brown bear - 135kg = 298 pounds. Average mature female Himalayan brown bear - 70kg = 154 pounds. Female Gobi bear ( 21 years old - 48 kg. ) - 105.82 pounds. Male Gobi bear ( 5 years old - 108 kg. ) - 238.10 pounds. Male Gobi bear ( 10 years old - 155 kg. ) - 341.72 pounds. Syrian Brown Bear - 220 to 250 pounds.

I've read through the weight study on Yellowstone grizzlies a second time and noted a few interesting things (I'll attach it below): Boars: "In general, males appeared to steadily gain weight annually until at least 15 years of age (Fig. 2)."
It seems that male grizzly bears are considered to be fully grown at 15 years of age, at least in terms of body weight. Calculating the average of the six bears being at least 15 years old, we would come to a mean weight of ~523lbs (237.2kg) and a length (including tip of the tail) of 182.3cm. "Males reached mean adult size in 7 of the 11 dimensions by 6 years (body length, girth, height at the shoulder, neck circumference, head length, front pad length, and rear pad width) and in all 11 by 9 years."This means that a grizzly bear has to be considered a mature adult male by the age of nine years, nothing more and nothing less. Calculating the average of the 32 bears being at least 9 years old, we would come to a mean weight of ~470lbs (213kg) and a length (including tip of the tail) of 166.2cm. Sows: "Females steadily increased in weight through age 13 (Fig. 2)."It seems that female grizzly bears are considered to be fully grown at 13 years of age, at least in terms of body weight. Calculating the average of the 14 bears being at least 13 years old, we would come to a mean weight of ~313lbs (141.9kg) and a length (including tip of the tail) of 146.4cm. "Females attained mean adult size in 5 of the 11 body dimensions by 4 years (contour body length, height at the shoulder, neck circumference, head length, and front pad width) and in all 11 by age 7 years."
This means that a grizzly bear has to be considered a mature adult female by the age of seven years, nothing more and nothing less. Calculating the average of the 48 bears being at least 7 years old, we would come to a mean weight of ~304lbs (138kg) and a length (including tip of the tail) of 152.1cm. My conclusions are: - Experienced females and males are heavier than mature adult females and males. It should be taken into account that the difference between adult and experienced males is bigger than the difference between adult and experienced females. - Females mature at a much faster rate than males. - When talking about the weight of bears only individuals being at least seven or nine years old respectively can be considered mature adults.
So the stats are the following: Mature adult Yellowstone grizzly bear (1975-1985): 470lbs and 166.2cm for boars; 304lbs and 152.1cm for sows.
Metric conversion: 166.2 cm = 65.43 inches or 5 feet 5.40 inches. 152.1 cm = 59.88 inches or 4 feet 11.88 inches.

When I look at the head-and-body length of lions, tigers, and Rocky Mountain grizzlies, they are basically same-size predators.

835 pounds is an average for a sub-adult 8-9 year old Kodiak. Notice the section under Adult Weight. "Willard A. Troyer writes: Four males weighed in the fall ranged from 960 - 1,346 pounds and three spring species ranged from 813 - 1190 lbs." Take the median value between 813 and 1190, and you'll come up with an average of about 1000 lbs for boar Kodiak Brown Bears.
ADF&G technical report on Alaskan Grizzlies suggests an average weight of 441 kg, or 974 lbs for mature (>10 y.o.) Brown Bears from Alaska Peninsula.

I'm going to pin this ( top it ) so that other posters can add their knowledge / findings and can adjust my mistakes. I am far from being an expert here. It seems we are forever searching for the weights of various animals so why not have an "index" of weights on hand?

Average mature Amur tiger - 450 pounds.Average mature Amur tigress - 285 pounds. Average mature Bengal tiger - 460-465 pounds.
Average mature Bengal tigress - 290 pounds. Why does the average mature male Amur tiger have a 450 lb average though? Its 418 lbs according to the very best source, The Siberian tiger project.

Average weight for males is 160-190 kg, while females are smaller, weighing in at 110-130 kg. The largest male captured for scientific research under the Siberian Tiger Project weighed in at 206 kg.

The Siberian Tiger Project was founded in 1992; there are a few tigers that have been weighed before that time and they were generally larger back then. I'll split it up in contemporary and historical Siberian tigers so that there is no confusion. I think the largest tiger they weighed was a 468lbs male called "Luk"; he was captured in October 2012: "One of them – an adult female Serga – was first captured and tagged with a satellite collar in 2008 in the presence of President Vladimir Putin, and then again in the fall of 2011. Serga, which gave birth to at least two litters of cubs since the permanent expedition has been in place, is now 12 years old and in great shape. The tiger mostly resides in the western part of the reserve, leaving numerous scent marks behind. The second identified tiger, Luk, a male, was first caught when he was three in late May 2010. Based on his genetic profile, the researchers assumed that he is not endemic to the Ussuri Reserve and first came there three months before he was captured. Luk then settled in the reserve and made the former adult resident male leave the area. During his second capture in October 2012, Luk was the Ussuri Reserve’s largest tiger, weighing 212 kg. He actively uses the territories under the Ussuri Reserve forestries and the adjacent Orlinoye hunting reserve."

The historical weights only consist of reliably weighed tigers excluding hunting records; with the largest being ~560lbs.

The historical weights only consist of reliably weighed tigers excluding hunting records; with the largest being ~560lbs. This is correct and there were very few Tigers weighed back in historical times. I believe some were even were larger than 560 lbs. IMO it will take a miraculous recovery to numbers in the thousands for the Siberian Tiger to return to his historical size and weight. Will that ever happen, dunno?

TheUndertaker, reply #15, that is "The Amur tiger programme", its a different organization than "The siberian tiger project, WCS Russia" But yeah, they captured an Amur tiger that weighted 212 kg, so thats good. The Siberian tiger project largest tiger capture was 206 kg.
That is why getting an average weight is relative, you might weight 23 tigers and get a 420 lb average, but then you can weight a whole different set of 23 tigers and get a 450 lb average, or 440, or even less, 400 lbs. So in reality all we have are estimates, an idea.
