bigthink.com/surprising-science/mammoth-dna?rebelltitem=1#rebelltitem1 Record for oldest DNA ever sequenced broken by mammoth remains One million year old mammoth DNA more than doubles the previous record and suggests that even older genomes could be found. Scientists extracting DNA from mammoth teeth have set a new record for the oldest DNA ever sequenced. The new record holder may also be a member of a new species of mammoth, but that remains to be proven. The findings suggest that DNA as old as 2.6 million years old could be decoded.

Reply 84. Never attempt to grab a soft shelled turtle unless you want to lose a finger. The owner better pull his cat away quickly. The turtle is about to bite.

Reply 86. It is not unusual for some invertebrates to have their body parts regrow even if only their head is left.

Nine species of humans lived among Homo sapiens. Did we go to war against them all?

www.ancient-origins.net/news-history-archaeology/human-ancestor-species-0011685 New Human Ancestor Species Discovered… And it had a Tail. The new species also showed traces of DNA from Denisovans and Homo sapiens indicating that the three species had interbred at some point. But the most shocking aspect of the discovery is that experts have determined that Homo apriliensis would have had a small visible tail, an example of vestigiality in which a species carries traits that have lost all or most of their original function through evolution. “Although structures called vestigial often appear functionless, a vestigial structure like a tail might still retain lesser functions or develop minor new ones,” Dr Bennett explained. Modern humans have many vestigial traits such as wisdom teeth and the appendix. The coccyx or tailbone is also an example of vestigiality and is the remnant of a lost tail.
