Over at Wildfact by Parvez ( a big cat fan-boy ) - Bear and bigcats anatomy Just read the first two posts. Spam. If his topic is left as is, I'm through with them. The entire topic should be deleted.

This week and the following weeks and months I'm going to need a good dose of Bear thinking.
My favourite coalition of lions, the Majingilane males, seem to be on the decline at a faster rate than I expected, and it's odd to see them like this.
I say that I'll need Bear thinking because I find that bear fans seem to, like bears, have this way of accepting things and move on easily, way faster than what lions (and their fans) do.

This fact was discussed back in the heated animal face-off wars of old. Most bear enthusiasts, it seems, are of a more mature bunch. I know that there are a great many things that a big cat can do better than a grizzly. I know that against huge herbivores, a big cat stands a better chance of making a successful kill than even the biggest grizzly. A tiger can clear a 12-foot-high fence in a single leap. A grizzly can jump no higher or further than a normal man. So many fantastic things that a big cat can do. They are indeed the greatest land-based predators on earth.

Yes, but I find that, biologically wise and taking out the antromorphic side of it, lions tend to have a hard time with dealing with a decline in health, less food and also when they're ousted of their land(which is not happening with the Majingilane, but the point is basically the same).
The cats that are much, much better prepared to do this are leopards, in this regard I find them very similar to bears, very adaptable, no matter the circumstances.
As a comparison, lions, while also adaptable, have a limit to it. And whn some difficulty appears before them, they tend to push through it, they trry to beat it down and conquer it until of course, eventually, they can't anymore and then they're at a loss of words, of actions, they seem to not know what to do.
In a general sense, lion fans are very similar to their cat counterpart in this regard.
Right now, the followers of the coalition in my FB page are concerned and sad for the lads, and some, including myself hope that they can push on through this, feed themselves and still go on, while others already are calling it quits(the article I posted on Wildfact even talks about their "demise").

BEING HONEST and admitting the truth even when the truth hurts: I give the tiger and the lion credit where credit is due. I believe that the tiger has stronger jaws and more lethal teeth than a grizzly. The big cats are far superior in their hunting and killing abilities. In all areas of reality where the big cats are superior to bears I readily admit. I admit that in Asia, more bears are killed by tigers than tigers by bears. I admit that if grizzlies lived in Africa, the lion would be the dominant member of Carnivora. But I will defend the grizzly where I know he is superior. A grizzly is built thicker, stronger, and has a greater girth of neck, limbs, and chest than a tiger in a fair comparison.

About my long absence. Family issues. After Tina's passing, I spent nine months in S.C. taking care of some who refuse to take care of themselves. Now, I am in Georgia with my youngest daughter while I save to rent my own place. In our Man-made environment, money is the forever problem. Good to be back.

If you look at many of the threads created here you will see most were created by Brobear. That's an incredible amount of information, so it's not too hard to believe why he has the most posts. Heck I remember the old Yuku site he had "Reign of the Grizzly" which I helped moderate and now defunct. He did the same thing, created a massive library of info on Bears and at one point where there were long stretches of no activity he would claim "I sometimes get tired of talking to myself" Remember Brobear.... IMO this site as was Reign of the Grizzly, a one stop place for info, knowledge and discussion on ALL Bears past and present. I'm not sure there is another like it out there?

Now...now... don't read too much into what I said. I was speaking in general terms. I've seen other boards where people seem run up their post total by posting meaningless posts just for the sake of posting something. It really doesn't add anything of value to the topic, just thinking out loud. Kodiak, you've breathed fresh air into this board and have brought it back to life and now Brobear can stop talking to himself.....

Well, I have been in a slump here lately by not discovering quality information; something fresh and new. I was going to order the book; "In the Shadow of the Sabertooth" about a week ago; but had to pay-out too much on other things. Will have it soon. Doug Peacock is a guy, Viet Nam vet who spent years in the wild after the war studying grizzlies. He wrote a book about Pleistocene N.America. Every book I find on Ice Age America tells about those animals that went extinct as if those still living were not there. I aim to learn as much as possible about the grizzly's place in that world of mega-fauna.

Don't sell yourself short. You've added a tremendous amount of info. At some point it has to get harder and harder to find fresh stuff or new stuff to add. It's inevitable.

Thanks Tom. I knew you meant in general terms, and i definatly agree. Most posts on other forums are meaningless. This forum here has very few members, but very smart about bears. We are very few but very strong. We dont need tiger boys in here, we already know the truth.
