ANDEAN SPECTACLED BEARS....aka the Andean short-faced bear or the Oso achupayaro (the bromeliad eating bear)...lives in cloud forests at high altitudes of the Andes mountains in South America...the only species of bears that lives in the Southern Hemisphere....measure 5 to 6.5 feet long....weigh 310 to 390 pounds....inspired literature's Paddington Bear who came from "darkest Peru" ....does not hibernate as food is available all year round...fewer than 3,000 in the wild.
