GOLIATH-2ND LARGEST KODIAK BEAR ON RECORD-2000 LBS. It's almost hard to fathom how large Goliath actually was. You would never see a Kodiak Bear this large in the wild. At least know one has ever witnessed anything like Goliath. But it's also sad to see such a magnificent animal wasting away in a small cage and he did this for years. Today's zoos have much better enclosures with much more room and natural looking habitat that can support multiple Bears such as the Minnesota Zoo where we have a Bear exhibit called Russia's Grizzly coast. There they have three Brown Bears, sea otters, Amur Leopards and Wild Boar.
This is the kind of enclosure that Goliath would have been able to live his life in a more natural setting, possibly with other Bears to interact with.
Animated tour.

Wow that Minnesota zoo bear exhibit is just like the wild Tom, it even has geysers like Yellowstone national park. That would had definatly been a much better place to live for Goliath or any other bear for that matter. Why is it called “Russia’s grizzly coast” ? Are the brown bears from Russia also? Have you been to that zoo?

The name is given due to what the habitat was setup to look like the Russian east coast. This would be the home of the Kamchatka Bear I guess? The Bears are actually from Alaska and were sent to the Zoo when they were young orphans. Here is a real life video posted from a visitor. Go to about 6:00 and you will see the bears interacting.
There are sea otters, Amur Leopards and Russian Wild Boar as well in this exhibit.

Awesome Tom. That place basically looks exactly like the bear’s habitat. Looks like the Russian Taiga. Bears look healthy. They must be happy. Place is huge also.

See you tomorrow friends! Good night and sleep tight don't let the flees bite . On a more serious note, the male brown bea is one of the few animals that can rest and sleep safely in open areas without worrying about being attacked since it is the apex predator in its area.

I have always believe that brown bears can potentially exceed polar bears in weight and this bear in the picture above is a living proof.

Brown Bear - Lake Clark National Park, Alaska "National parks and reserves are an integral aspect of intelligent use of natural resources. It is the course of wisdom to set aside an ample portion of our natural resources as national parks and reserves, thus ensuring that future generations may know the majesty of the earth as we know it today." ~ John F. Kennedy

These animals are intelligent, majestic, and not man eaters. Let us change the way people think of bears and other wildlife. They are much more impressive - alive! Respect is often missing for wild animals and the environment.
