Please dont call the bears fat, they have feelings also. Lmao. So how big was bear 409? The bear's were not weighed. This was a contest conducted on facebook from pictures posted of the contestants. When you think about it, every time a bear is weighed, he must first be drugged which is always risky.

Right. So do you have any pic of your fat bear? You may notice that I have not posted any pics for some time now. I can not pull up the "numbers" needed to post.

Who do you think will win in a fight between a kodiak bear and a grizzly bear at weight parity ?

To have weight parity with a Kodiak it would have to be a coastal grizzly. Anyways they are basically the same animal, same specie, different subspecie, the main difference is where they live and their sizes. Also, kodiaks have a more social structure. Kodiaks have larger bones and frame structure. Grizzlies might have more fighting experience with tougher animals like bison and moose.
In conclusion....even at weight parity, the winner is... URSUS ARCTOS MIDDENDORFFI.

Even at size parity, the Kodiak has the heaviest skeleton, slightly bigger bones for his size among living brown bears. Can you name three brown bear subspecies bigger than a Kodiak bear?

I think a large adult male bear from karluk Kodiak Island will be able to defeat any big cat in quick due to large size and power. Some say that the Kodiak have a weaker bite to that of a siberian tiger but I would still favor the bear due to it's large frame and skeleton. In this fight I would pick a mature male boar with white ivory claws because that men the bear is fully mature where their claws are pure white.

Not a fair fight. At average, kodiak is more than double the weight. At max, could be triple. 9/10 for the kodiak bear. Kodiak is heavy machine, best of the land.

I love all bears really. The grizzly bear (U. a. horribilis) is awesome. The polar bear (Ursus Maritimus) is awesome. The Ussuri brown bear (Ursus arctos lasiotus) is awesome. The american black bear (Ursus americanus) is pretty good. The Panda bear (A. melanoleuca) is the cutest. The Sloth bear (Melursus ursinus) is tough. The rest are nice also. But there is only one king of the bears nowadays, guess who ladies and gentleman?
Kodiak bear (URSUS ARCTOS MIDDENDORFFI) the best of the land.

This might not be a Katmai brown bear, but it sure is a fat black bear, lol. Something just looks too fake; like a black bear inside of a furry "dog house". If its for real, it sure looks weird. In fact, could be taxidermy work.

How could Amur tigers pose much of a threat to a population of bears which are roughly 25% larger than the black grizzlies which this tiger has learned to co-exist with? Also, the islands are just not big enough to contain any but a very few tigers.

Yes but I was just talking about putting one male siberian tiger on kodiak island to see how long and good he last before he is defeated by a kodiak bear.

Tigers are too rare to be put there to be killed. Basically, this would be similar to an arranged pit-fight. Also.... how do I get the message across to you guys that I am trying hard to sway this site away from being a fan-boy animal face-off site? The topic is Kodiak bears. Looking for information...
