A Bwindi silverback Mountain gorilla. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Uganda. Bwindi gorillas are the other lesser known population of mountain gorillas restricted only to Uganda. They don't live in the same Virunga Mountain range as the ones from Virunga National Park in DRC or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Bwindi gorillas generally have flatter and wider faces, especially certain silverbacks like the one above who have the most striking of features. Bwindi gorillas also have shorter fur than their Virunga counterparts due to the lower elevations, which is between 3900 ft to 8500 ft. Virunga gorillas usually live between 7500 ft to 14000 ft, making them the only known apes to roam a freezing tundra environment, so they can experience snowy conditions at those heights.
