That is probably a Queen Charlotte Black Bear. They can reach an exceptional weight of 800 pounds and are bolder and more predatory than the average blackies.

The Haida Gwaii black bear AKA the Queen Charlotte islands black bear (Ursus americanus carlottae).
The Vancouver island black bear (Ursus americanus Vancouveri)
As we can see here, the Queen Charlotte islands is just northwest of the Vancouver island:

They are not very far from each other. They are both the ‘kodiak bears’ and ‘Peninsula Alaskan brown bears’ of the American black bears.

Those are impressive black bears, but the record-sized black bears come from Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Eastern black bear ( Ursus americanus americanus ).
