Chapter 10: To the desert.
Spotting humans which had lost their sanity killing each other, Dan continues his journey forward. He actually stabs a canibal in the neck with his stick. Going forward, he bumps into a man who managed to keep his sanity who is no other than Jim.
Jim tells him that the alien greys have sent him here as punishment for attacking Aesop and that the desert is the end of the line. No one has ever passed by the desert and survived.
Dan learns the safe places and the proper food to eat from Jim and the animals which are friends and these which are foes.

These lappet faced vultures fly in the sky and frequent the areas where human 'prisoners' are transported to. These birds know the life expectancy of humans on this planet is short.

Chapter 11: The lappet faced vultures.
Dan spotted lappet faced vultures dominating other vultures at carcasses. Their powerful beaks allow them to tear fresh hide which is why other scavengers often have to wait for them to arrive.
Dan wished he had a camera to take pictures but Jim tells him its only in his dreams and to forget about it.
Eurasian black vultures arrive too but were dominated by the more aggressive lappet faced vultures.

Chapter 12: Longing to go home.
Dan longs to go home but he knows that there is no hope of doing so. He told Jim that he has been sent here for a crime which he never did.
Jim said he had heard people tell him that before and many of them have given up on life but he believes Dan is stronger than that.

Chapter 13: Where are the women?
Dan asked where the women are? Jim says they are probably on the other side of the land.
Dan asked Jim how he knew. Jim told Dan to use his common sense, planet Darwin is a prison and they want to keep the men and women apart as in prisons.
Dan wanders if he can ever get to see a woman again. Jim said only if he crosses the desert and makes it to the other side. There is a possibility but no one has done it before but since he is 50 and there he has nothing to lose, he is willing to assist Dan and give it a go but the young man has to be sure about it.
Dan agrees and both men prepare to cross the desert.

Chapter 14: Crossing the desert.
Dan together with Jim and twenty other men cross the desert with bags of fruits made up of the leaves. It seems that at least one of them was skilled in making accessories out of nothing. The men did not forget to bring along their weapons. Vultures were flying overhead and ready to rip part anyone who dies.
It seems the vultures have seen many cross the desert and die halfway. Jim instructs everyone to watch out for the Oasis.

Chapter 15: The oasis.
The journey was long and hard. The sun was bright and hot. At one point of time, the wind blew hard. Jim commanded everyone to shut their eyes and hide under the covering which someone made out of the palm leaves until the storm passes.
Once the storm passed, the men continued their journey. The fruit dried up and one of the men when to a barrel cactus and stab it with his stick. The other men did the same and they manage to open the cactus (not so clean cut). Each of them took turns in digging into the cactus to eat its fresh, watery insides, taking care not to touch these torns.
The men walked on and saw elf owls sleeping in some cactus which had holes made by woodpeakers.
Finally, after ten days, they found an Oasis.

Chapter 16: Dangers inside the oasis.
Dan and Jim made it to the oasis. Jim cautioned the men to watch out as many dangerous animals will probably be around.
A creature which looks like a giant short faced bear appeared to be drinking from the water. The only animal that was brave enough to drink beside the short faced bear was one which looks like a deadon.

Chapter 17: Food and bbq.
The two animals got into a fight. Both seem evenly match at first. However, Titan got careless and ended up being killed by ogre.
Seeing the deadon injured, the men finished off orge with their sticks putting an end to its life. One of them made fire out of stones and they enjoyed some raw meat as they had no knives.
Dan hesitated but Jim told him that in this situation no one can afford to be fussy.

Chapter 18: Titan.
The smell of blood drew the presence of another Titan. The tired men gave way to the short faced bear allowing it to eat its fill before moving on after drinking some water.
Dan once again wished he had a camera to take a picture of that short faced bear.

Chapter 19: Leaving the oasis.
The men collected what they needed and after hanging some meat over the fire that night, they prepared to leave.
The next day, some camels came drinking the water. Knowing how to interact with animals, Dan befriended the herd and they gave the men a ride into the desert.

Chapter 20: Making it to the otherside.
With the help of the camels, the men finally made it to the otherside. Dan thanked the camels for their help before moving on once they made it to the next wildlife ecosystem which could have taken the men much longer to reach if they had traveled by foot.
